Methods: 21 patients who were clinically suspected to have SCD underwent cervical and/or thoracic spinal MRI study, including sagittal T1WI and T2WI and axial T2-weighted sequences. Eight of the patients had iv gadopentetate dimeglumine(Gd-DTPA) administration for enhancement. Results: All patients had increased T2-weighted signal intensity in the dorsal and/or lateral columns of the cervical and/or thoracic spinal cord. No evidence of enhancement after Gd-DTPA administration. In 10 patients who had improved clinical symptoms after vitamin B12 treatment demonstrated definitely reduction or disappearance of the high signal intensity lesion in the spinal cord on T2WI in the follow-up MRI at 6 to 12 months respectively. Conclusion:MRI is helpful in the diagnosis and treatment surveillance of SCD.","PeriodicalId":407353,"journal":{"name":"Radiologic Practice","volume":"03 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129141088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
