Most conventional environmental management practices tend to worsen environmental problems and people’s health. New direction in sustainable management of mining waste, with the focus on the application of new technologies and measures, is aimed at reducing the negative influence on the environment and enhancement of resource utilization. This research approach involves collecting literature from peer-reviewed articles, industry reports, and international guidelines, and the data in this article is synthesized into an evaluation of significant innovations in waste minimization, recycling, re-use, and treatment strategies. The results shown are the trends towards the integrated solutions that implement mining industries according to the global sustainable development objectives. Where there are negative impacts, such as on the environment, more stress is put on inventions such as dry stacking, bio remedial techniques, and the idea of circular economy for value addition. Issues such as high-cost implementation and technological limitations in developing nations have been outlined, as the research presents approaches to replicating sustainability on a worldwide basis.","PeriodicalId":39476,"journal":{"name":"土木工程学报","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s44290-025-00233-9.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147915995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Settlement is always induced by tunneling. Ground settlement as a result of digging shallow tunnels is therefore a frequent occurrence. In order to maintain control over the settlement, it should be able to predict it and take the appropriate safety measures. Even the settlement characteristics due to the excavation of twin the tunnel have been studied extensively. However, the parallel tunnel interaction with other structures in a huge slope has not been studied. This paper aims to review the previous settlement characteristics due to tunneling when parallel tunnels have an interaction process during the excavation. The specific objective of this study is to expand the understanding of settlement behavior in tunneling under large slopes with focusing on the interaction mechanism, which is underexplored in comparison to flat terrains. The capabilities and limitations in the settlement characteristics during the tunneling process have been revised. Furthermore, the gapes in describing the settlement and the lack of studies that accompany the phenomena has been revealed.","PeriodicalId":39476,"journal":{"name":"土木工程学报","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-02-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s44290-025-00175-2.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147885546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
