They know the need and they know the risk and this is what they have trained for. With calm urgency volunteers converge on their fire stations and - pulling on protective coats, heavy boots, helmets and gloves - transform into front line fighters. Swinging into trucks and racing toward danger they do the dirty, exhausting work of holding back fiery destruction where possible. When the blaze is overwhelming, they do what can be done to minimise harm to people and possessions.","PeriodicalId":375551,"journal":{"name":"Ceramics-technical","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115547977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here an intriguing new theory on an ancient puzzle.","PeriodicalId":375551,"journal":{"name":"Ceramics-technical","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123221480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Ishtar Gate was a large impressive and artistically decorated construction made from especially formed ceramic bricks glazed in colours ranging from blue to gold and included reliefs in the form of bulls and dragons. A representative replication of the Northern Gate and part of the Processional Way completed in 1930 and now housed in the Pergamon museum in Berlin is described.","PeriodicalId":375551,"journal":{"name":"Ceramics-technical","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116715975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
