They know the need and they know the risk and this is what they have trained for. With calm urgency volunteers converge on their fire stations and - pulling on protective coats, heavy boots, helmets and gloves - transform into front line fighters. Swinging into trucks and racing toward danger they do the dirty, exhausting work of holding back fiery destruction where possible. {"title":"The Ishtar Gate","authors":"Leo King","doi":"10.5040/9781350096462.0131","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5040/9781350096462.0131","url":null,"abstract":"The Ishtar Gate built between 500 and 600 BC by Nebuchadnezzar II, ruler of the Neo-Babylonian dynasty, was a symbol of his personal power, that of the Babylonian empire and a tribute to the omnipotence of the gods to whom everything was subject. The Ishtar Gate was a large impressive and artistically decorated construction made from especially formed ceramic bricks glazed in colours ranging from blue to gold and included reliefs in the form of bulls and dragons.
