Magnesium has long been used as a treatment \u0000modality for cardiac arrhythmias as serum magnesium concentration of 1.44 mEq/L to 1.8 mEq/L has been \u0000found to have a statistically significant inverse association with cardiovascular disease events. Patients with \u0000the highest intake of magnesium were found to have incidents of sudden cardiac death reduced by 77% \u0000while hypomagnesemia is found to be associated with increased risk of congestive heart failure and cardiac \u0000arrhythmias. It has also been demonstrated that high dietary intake of serum magnesium is associated with \u0000decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure secondary to reduction in vascular tone and an increase in \u0000vasodilatory substances, like Prostaglandin E. Association of cardiovascular diseases with hypomagnesemia \u0000and the need for the fulfilment of RDA goals, authenticates the use of oral magnesium supplements, with \u0000established safety profile and lack of potential for toxicity.

Treatment with chemotherapeutic \u0000agents for this type of cancer depends to a large extent on the phenotypic characteristics that appear in the \u0000tumor, such as some receptors. \u0000The treatment of breast cancer is complex since not all patients respond adequately to it and this is partly \u0000due to mechanisms of resistance to treatment. The resistance either acquired or intrinsic to \u0000chemotherapeutics against breast cancer is related to multiple genes and proteins that are actively involved \u0000in the development of resistance mechanisms, which may be inhibiting the binding of the drug to the target \u0000receptor, inhibiting the gene expression of the receptors, activating signaling pathways, inducing the action \u0000of transporters that expel the drug from the cell, etc. \u0000As a result of this review, the mechanisms of chemotherapeutic resistance in breast cancer derived from \u0000genes and proteins related to say disease are described, including genes related to different types of breast \u0000cancer, as well as with different therapeutic strategies. \u0000These genes and their products of expression include a wide range of interactions and activations of \u0000signalling pathways that trigger a poor response to treatment, which translates into a worse prognosis, higher \u0000risk of prevalence and death, favouring breast cancer to be the main cause of cancer death in women. \u0000Objective: Conduct an updated review of genes and proteins, that have been associated with conferring \u0000resistance to the different chemotherapeutic agents used for the treatment of breast cancer, including the \u0000mechanism of resistance and the type of cancer in which it is generated. \u0000Method: The search for indexed articles in the PubMed (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/) and \u0000ScienceDirect (http://www.sciencedirect.com) databases was performed, using the words “Breast cancer \u0000resistance” as a search criterion, articles published in the period 2015-2017 were selected.
