Seventeen camels were included in this\u0000study based on the clinical, radiographic and ultrasonographic evidence of\u0000Achilles tendon rupture. The clinical, radiographic and sonographic findings of\u0000studied camels differ according to the type, duration, and location of the\u0000tendon rupture. Complete and incomplete rupture of the Achilles tendon was\u0000precisely diagnosed in five (29.4%) and twelve (70.6%) camels respectively;\u0000ruptured deep and superficial parts of the Achilles tendon were recorded in\u000010 (58.8%) and 2 (11.8%) camels respectively. Clinically, the camels exhibited\u0000an acute non-weight-bearing lameness (second to fourth-grade lameness),\u0000with swelling in the tendon near the calcaneus. Radiographs revealed swelling\u0000of the soft tissues surrounding the Achilles tendon just proximal to the\u0000calcaneal tuberosity in most of the camels with the presence of avulsion\u0000fracture of the calcaneus in few cases (n=2). Ultrasonographically, the\u0000ruptured part was precisely diagnosed as swollen, oedematous,\u0000heterogeneous structure with the presence of anechoic or hypoechoic areas\u0000(core lesion). In conclusion, lateromedial radiographs and ultrasonography\u0000were helpful in diagnosis and differential diagnosis of different types of\u0000Achilles tendon rupture and subsequent clinical decision and surgical\u0000interference in dromedary camels.

Recently, the camel racing practice in\u0000the Middle East has added to the cultural value of dromedary camels, which\u0000lead to increased interest in improving their genetic makeup, reproductivity\u0000and treatment efficiency. Tissue culture-based therapy in domestic animals is\u0000described as safe with considerable welfares to the animals. Tissue culture\u0000application is currently growing in the fields of vaccine production, virus\u0000cultivation and study, cancer research, gene therapy, Immunological studies\u0000and molecular biology. In veterinary medicine tissue culture technique has\u0000been used for the study of viral infection dynamics and vaccine development\u0000and for treatment of many affection including musculoskeletal system injuries,\u0000liver disease and mastitis. However, in dromedary camels such applications are\u0000relatively less. The current work reviewed the available research on tissue\u0000culture in dromedary camels. Our review shed light on the therapeutic,\u0000genetic, preventive and reproductive contribution of tissue culture application\u0000in dromedary camels.
