This effort was targeted at making compact devices that could emit multiple wavelengths and detect multiple wavelengths simultaneously. Multiple approaches were considered. The chosen design accomplishes multiple input and multiple output spectral measurements through a direct-sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) technique.
