One research theme of the project is evaluation of ship performance in a calm sea using onboard monitoring data, since performance in a calm sea is the basis for evaluating ship performance in actual seas and for assessing the effects of fouling and aging on ships. In this paper, the authors introduce the Resistance Criteria Method (RCM) for evaluation of ship performance in a calm sea. The method applies the increase rate of resistance from a calm sea for filtering of environmental factors, and also applies the \u0000apparent slip ratio for reduction of deviations in the filtered data. The effectiveness of RCM is validated by a comparison between onboard monitoring data and performance simulations based on the performance obtained by RCM.","PeriodicalId":351045,"journal":{"name":"Full Scale Ship Performance 2021","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114930780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An “added power” coefficient has been identified, inclusive of both wind and waves effects, in relation also with the frequency of occurrence for each relative wind direction value. Moreover, due to the importance of the topside exposed surface, typical feature of passengers ships (e.g. cruise ships and ferries), attention has specifically been paid to the wind contribution. An attempt to derive the solely effect of wind action from a full scale data-sample has been finalized; in this perspective non-dimensional coefficient of wind force has been derived and plotted as a function of wind relative direction angle.","PeriodicalId":351045,"journal":{"name":"Full Scale Ship Performance 2021","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128715670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This propulsion option has become a relevant alternative to steam-powered plants representing about 32% of the total LNG fleet in 2018. This study seeks to establish the operational and energy use profile of LNG carriers based on the analysis of high-frequency in-service data. It focuses on LNG carriers with DFDE propulsion systems using data collected between 2016 and 2018 from 11 LNG carriers – representing about 7% of the DFDE and TFDE powered LNG fleet. The continuous monitoring data covers many performance parameters allowing for a reliable analysis of operation and energy use while reducing uncertainty by measuring essential parameters rather than assuming or approximating.","PeriodicalId":351045,"journal":{"name":"Full Scale Ship Performance 2021","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114903631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
