By the set of their properties, carbon plastics outperform steel, cast iron, alloys of non-ferrous metals. However, the application of these materials for parts of machine friction units is still limited due to the difficult operating conditions of modern tribosystems. This work aims to conduct a comprehensive experimental study of the tribological properties of materials in the tribosystem \"carbon plastic-metal\" taking into consideration their structure, as well as the mechanical-thermal characteristics. Comparative tests of the dependence of the friction coefficient on load for metal and polymeric anti-friction materials have shown a decrease in the friction coefficient for plastics by 3...4 times (textolite, carbotextolite, and carbon-fiber plastics). The influence of the filler orientation relative to the slip plane on the anti-friction properties of carbon-fiber plastics was investigated; it was found that the direction of fiber reinforcement in parallel to the friction area ensures less carbon-fiber plastic wear. A linear dependence of the wear intensity of carbon-fiber plastics, reinforced with graphite fibers, on the heat capacity and energy intensity of the mated steel surface has been established. Based on the microstructural analysis, a layered mechanism of the surface destruction of carbon-fiber plastics was established caused by the rupture of bonds between the fiber parts, taking into consideration the direction of the fibers' location to the friction surface. The results reported here could provide practical recommendations in order to select the composition and structure of materials for the tribosystem \"carbon-fiber plastic-metal\" to be used in machine friction units based on the criterion of improved wear resistance.","PeriodicalId":348312,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Tribology (Topic)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123662108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, increasing the concentration of graphite powder in oil from 0 to 3 % under a load of 363‒646 N decreases a wear rate by 42‒29.7 %, respectively. The study procedure implied modeling the process of rolling friction at slippage using rollers at the SMC-2 friction machine. This particular type of friction occurs in the tribosystem wheel flange the side surface of a rail head in the curved track sections. The supply of oil applying an aerosol technique was also implied. Two independent factors were varied: the concentration of graphite powder in the industrial oil I-12A and an external load. The constant factors were the roller rotation frequency, which enabled stable slippage at the level of 20 %, and oil temperature, and the duration of each test. The results of the experiment have made it possible to derive a regression equation, which describes the wear pattern of a roller in the friction pair «roller‒roller» depending on the selected factors. At the final stage of this work, we calculated a rail resource in the curved track section. The results of calculating a railroad rail resource under conditions of increasing the concentration of graphite powder from 0 to 3 % at external loads from 363 to 646 N have demonstrated an increase in the rail resource from 40 to 61 %. The calculation was based on the obtained experimental data, which characterize the friction process between the side surface of a rail head and the wheel flange in a curved track section under the conditions of two-layer greasing at various loads. The two-layer greasing was formed through the aerosol application of oil onto the friction surface with a different concentration of graphite. The data obtained make it possible to predict the service life of rails in the curved track sections under conditions of two-layer greasing","PeriodicalId":348312,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Tribology (Topic)","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123216799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis has been done using FLUENT. For two different lubricants (VG-32 and Glycerine) maximum pressure developed in bearing has been found out for various eccentricity ratio values (ε = 0.2,0.4,0.6,0.8) for semi cone angle of 10° and varying the semi cone angle (10°, 20°, 30°and 40°) by taking aspect ratio as 1. From simulation results it was found that the values of maximum pressure developed in bearing increases with semi cone angle.","PeriodicalId":348312,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Tribology (Topic)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126614129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Advent of new technological innovations made it imperative to search for new materials and alloys. Aluminum- Silicon alloys are one such material which has gained huge demand in various industries such as automobile industry. This is owing to its high wear resistance, low density, high strength to weight ratio and low thermal expansion coefficient. Rapid advancements in fields of various industries made the study of their tensile and wear behavior of paramount importance. In the present investigation, aluminium based alloy, with 12% Silicon was synthesized using stir casting method. Samples with four different compositions, viz., Al-12Si alloy with 0.04 % Ti, Al-12Si alloy with 0.0.5% Sr and Al-12Si alloy with 0.04% Ti and 0.0.4% strontium were synthesized used stir casting method. The effect of grain refiner, Al-5Ti-1B and the modifier, Strontium, on base aluminium alloy (Al-12Si) was studied. Tensile testing was done on four specimens with universal testing machine. The ultimate tensile strength was found to be highest for the AlSi alloy with 0.05% strontium (modifier). While elongation % was higher for the AlSi alloy which was grain refined using 0.05% Titanium. Rockwell hardness test was performed on four different specimens. Pin-on-Disc wear testing machine was used to evaluate the wear behaviour of test specimens. Wear resistance was high for alloy which was grain refined using Al-5Ti-1B master alloy and least for base alloy (Al-12Si).","PeriodicalId":348312,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Tribology (Topic)","volume":"32 10","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120902123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
