The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationships between the bone quality index (BQI) in the calcaneus and anthropometric variables in male elite athletes. Participants were Hungarian elite male athletes: kayak-canoe (KC, n=43); triathlon (T, n=16); track & field (TF, n=46); water-polo (WP, n=19). Their physique was characterised by Heath-Carter somatotype. Calcaneal Quantitative Ultrasound (QUS) parameters were registered by Sonost3000 densitometer. Differences in bone quality between the groups and correlation patterns between QUS and physique were analysed (p<0.05). There were significant differences in QUS parameters. T and TF had significantly higher SOS (speed of sound, m/s) values than WP. KC had lower SOS values than T athletes (TF: 1519.3±16.0; T: 1512.9±20.8; KC: 1505.6±12.4; W: 1495.1±10.8. BUA (broadband ultrasound attenuation, dB/MHz) was the largestest in TF but this only differed significantly from WP (TF: 106.5±14.8; T: 98.9±11.5; KC: 98.7±16.5; WP: 92.2±8.8). BQI (αSOS+βBUA) was higher in TF (92.0±16.7) than in KC (79.2±13.1), WP (69.3±10.0); it was higher in T (84.8±19.6) than WP. Muscle percentage correlated positively, while absolute bone measurements correlated inversely with bone parameters. Higher QUS values were associated with lower endomorphy and mesomorphy, while more linear physiques correlated with better bone parameters. Physique and type of exercise training appear to be associated with bone status. Both weight-bearing and non-weight bearing exercise improve calcaneus bone parameters such as BQI to different extents. It might be preferable to combine some weight-bearing exercise during the sessions, and it is also highly recommended after a competitive period and during recreational sport activities.

Similarities and differences between the sample and the general population of African Americans in the state were noted with the numbers incarcerated in the sample being the most dramatic difference. Over half of the sample had been incarcerated in a state recognized for its penchant for using the police and incarceration to control African Americans. The article concluded with attempts to connect the dots between vulnerability to HIV due to childhood trauma, a weathering from racism from an early age, educational deprivation, and policy choices such as abstinence-only sex education that raise the risks for young African Americans in Louisiana.

The populations of the USA, China and Russia, as well as the population of mice observed in the experiment "mouse paradise" of the American scientist John Calhoun are considered. To this end, a historically consistent analysis of the main previously proposed multi-scenario mathematical models describing demographic data and predicting the dynamics of the population was performed. The results of these models show a decrease in the population growth rate, a tendency toward a limit with an increase in historical time, the achievement of such a limit in some developed countries with a relatively high level of social security, a subsequent decrease in the number and further uncertainty of the final population outlook in the distant future. In addition, these models made it possible to establish that the observed population growth in developed countries is unambiguously accompanied by its aging - a relative predominant increase in the number of elderly people compared to the number of the younger generation (people are aging, the population of countries is aging). In this work, the assumption was made and confirmed that the dynamics of the aging of the population of the countries of the World corresponds to the dynamics of aging of a person of one generation and is mathematically described by the differential equation of the kinetic theory of aging of living systems of the same type with close values of the parameters. The biophysical meaning of the parameters of the kinetic equation reflects G. Selye's concept of the determining role of stress in human life and populations. An analysis of the changes in the numbers of the considered populations of humans and mice at various stages of their development is qualitatively commented on from the standpoint of comparative tension according to G. Selye. To assess the degree of aging of a biological object of one population in kinetic theory, the probability of death during life is selected as an indicator of aging. In this work, the probability of reaching the maximum population size was chosen as an indicator of the aging of a biological object of various populations. The published literature predicts various options for changing the population after reaching a maximum - maintaining the reached maximum level and decreasing to a certain limit, less than the maximum achieved. In this paper, based on an analysis of its results and an analogy with the complete degeneration of mice in the “mouse paradise” experiment, a conclusion is drawn about a hypothetically possible third variant of the limiting decrease in the population - its complete degeneration.

It has also been shown to be effective in increasing motor control. But the duration of therapeutic exercise in physical therapy is limited by insurance to 30-60 minutes a day. \u0000Objectives: Four standard therapy eccentric exercises of the lower limbs were compared (toe raise, ball exercise, side lying eccentric exercise and incline board exercise) to a trainer called the BTE Eccentron to see if the efficiency of exercise could be increased using one exercise session to meet or beat the four individual exercises. \u0000Subjects and Methods: The study examined eight randomly selected participants with no known medical conditions (neurological or orthopedic) that would preclude their participation (age=24.1+/-2.1 years height=168.9+/-6.4 cm BMI=23.2+/-3.2). EMG was used to assess muscle recruitment in each exercise. The muscles studies were the gastrocnemius, hamstring, hip adductors, and quadriceps muscles. \u0000Results: Muscle use on the eccentron was almost double that of the other exercises. Thus, making therapy more efficient. One single exercise bout showed more muscle activation during eccentric exercise than the other four exercises, with an average muscle use almost 4 times higher on the eccentron. \u0000Conclusion: The Eccentron offers a considerable advantage for clinical treatment making exercise and neuromuscular training more efficient.
