These networks can be quickly deployed in situations where no infrastructure exists. Effective use of these networks is largely dependent on secure and reliable behavior of participating nodes as they are also used for routing and forwarding services. A number of strategies have been proposed to handle security issues in MANET. The key distribution mechanism under such protocols can be improved by adding the dimension of profile-based selection of participating nodes. This paper presents mobility profile driven security architecture for identifying candidate nodes for PKI deployment in MANET. The mobility profiles of nodes can be differentiated between those confined to small area from nodes having high mobility and varying signal / link conditions. The distributed information is used to identify relative stationary or peering node points that collaborate to generate a dynamic knowledge base. The profiles are exchanged between peering nodes as beacons along with routing updates. The wireless domain is thus monitored to locate unpredictable behavior and improve security management over ad-hoc networks. The conceptual phase of the method is now under test on ns2 simulator.","PeriodicalId":346712,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Symposium on High Capacity Optical Networks and Enabling Technologies","volume":"32 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115838249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Without an intelligent, automated and self-learning management tool, it will become increasingly difficult to manage such a large network. Earlier techniques rely heavily on SNMP-MIB information or utilize ICMP-echo request/reply, DNS, trace route to carry out network discovery. Algorithm we have developed determines the IP ranges of devices, which are likely to be, discovered so reducing the query to IP ranges. It only requires SNMP agent enabled on routers and switches. We propose to have one mobile agent in each subnet to discover topology of that subnet. Parallel working of agents reduces discovery time than one agent discovering whole network. An added advantage is discovery load gets distributed on multiple agents. The experimental results validate our approach that results of the mobile agent approach were more efficient than single agent approach.","PeriodicalId":346712,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Symposium on High Capacity Optical Networks and Enabling Technologies","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128882522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is preferred in WDM-PONs to provide fault management (survivability) at link layer level. In this paper, our objective is to determine the factors, which can increase the scope of survivability at link layer, not available currently. We propose a cost-effective recovery mechanism, called ldquoExtended Survivable Passive Access Networkrdquo (e-SPAN). e-SPAN is a multi-level protection scheme that has potential to corrects eventual errors that are caused by the transmission system by using different forward error correcting codes at receiver end, thus allowing us to have better performance budget in terms of BER and extended transmission distance of 8 to 12 Km.","PeriodicalId":346712,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Symposium on High Capacity Optical Networks and Enabling Technologies","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114260605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since it is impractical to have a GPS device on each sensor in WSN, most of the existing location discovery schemes can only be used in the trusted environment. Recently, some advanced research has addressed security issues in sensor network localization, but to the best of our knowledge, none of them has completely solved the secure localization problem. In this paper, we propose novel schemes for secure localization in sensor networks. One of these proposed schemes requires only linear computation time with respect to the number of reference nodes. Our security analysis has shown that our schemes are applicable and resilient to attacks from adversaries. We have further conducted simulations to analyze the performance of these schemes.","PeriodicalId":346712,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Symposium on High Capacity Optical Networks and Enabling Technologies","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129464695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the commercial success of these e-business services, the ability to deliver QoS (Quality of Services) guarantees is crucial. One often considers the percentile of response time as the QoS metric. Today, there is no mature solution to ensure that an e-business service can be guaranteed in term of the percentile of response time. In this paper, we first present a typical Web services model and then develop a method for the calculation of the percentile response time for the Web services performance. The obtained result can be used in the design of a computing system for Web services subject to the percentile response time guarantee.","PeriodicalId":346712,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Symposium on High Capacity Optical Networks and Enabling Technologies","volume":"96 12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129293155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Towards optimum planning of GMPLS transport networks","authors":"N. Naas, H. This calls for the use of Multi-Granular OXCs (MG-OXCs) to maintain the scalability of OXCs at a reasonable level. Various MG-OXC architectures and methods for the planning (or dimensioning) of MG-OXC-based networks have been proposed. Motivated by the fact that the MG-OXC constitutes only the optical segment of GMPLS-based transport node, we first propose a new transport node architecture that can handle the whole traffic hierarchy defined in GMPLS. Second, incorporating the proposed architecture with our novel contributions, namely (1) considering grouping and switching of the whole flows defined in GMPLS; (2) allowing bifurcation of multi-granularity traffic demands among different physical routes, requires defining a new transport planning problem, which we call the Routing and Multi-Granular Paths Assignment (RMGPA) problem. The RMGPA problem is formulated as a Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model with the objective of minimizing the overall network weighted port count.","PeriodicalId":346712,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Symposium on High Capacity Optical Networks and Enabling Technologies","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115659762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
