This study focuses on investigating the variability of the intersinus septum in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia through high-resolution CT imaging. By exploring these anatomical features, the research aims to enhance surgical techniques, improve patient safety, and contribute to the development of region-specific guidelines and educational resources for skull base surgeries. Design and Methods A retrospective cross-sectional study conducted on 100 patients who underwent CT scan of paranasal sinuses from January 2023 to December 2023. Various parameters from axial, sagittal, and coronal views were used to calculate the dimensions and variations of the sphenoid sinuses. Results The study revealed that the most common pneumatization type was sellar (53%), followed by postsellar (30%) and presellar (17%), with the conchal type being extremely rare (1%). The mean presellar width and depth were nearly identical at 1.47 cm and 1.46 cm, respectively. Suprasellar depth variability was slightly higher than other dimensions. The most frequent intersinus septa configurations were single (81%), with midline septa being the predominant posterior termination (52.9%). Pneumatization of the anterior clinoid process was observed in 22%, and the pterygoid process was pneumatized in 50% of cases. The rate of Onodi cells was 36%, and optic nerve protrusion was found in 26% of cases. Statistical analyses revealed significant associations between postsellar pneumatization and both pterygoid process pneumatization (p<0.001) and the presence of Onodi cells (p=0.045). Conclusion The study highlighted significant anatomical variations of the sphenoid sinus in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, which have important implications for surgical planning and risk management in skull base surgeries. A detailed preoperative CT scan is essential for navigating these variations to ensure safer and more effective surgical interventions. These findings contribute valuable insights into the regional anatomical features of the sphenoid sinus and support the development of targeted surgical guidelines and educational resources.","PeriodicalId":338895,"journal":{"name":"Journal of ENT and Healthcare","volume":"15 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141801246","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This phenomenon occurs because the genetic mutations in CF cause impaired chloride ion transport, which affects water transport and thus leads to thick mucus that cannot be cleared easily in both the lower and upper airways. While improvements continue to be made in treatment modalities for CF patients in terms of modulator therapies, the effect on sinus disease symptoms and the role of the otolaryngologist (ENT) continues to evolve. This study investigates the sinus symptoms of CF patients with comparison to ENT involvement in their care, the histories of polyps and sinus surgeries of these CF patients, and how their initiation to modulator treatment has affected ENT involvement in their care. A retrospective health records review was conducted including patients from Augusta University Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center with stratification based on demographics, mutations, modulators, ENT clinic visits, history of polyps or nasal surgery, and reported symptoms of headaches, olfactory dysfunction, and sleep problems. 98 patients of the Augusta University Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center met the inclusion criteria of this study. Most of the patients with reported ENT visits in the past 10 years were white and between the ages of 20-29. The most common modulator therapy of the CF patients was elexacaftor-tezacaftor-ivacaftor at 72.22%. More than half of the patients had a history of sinonasal surgery, and almost half had a history of polyps. In comparing ENT visits to the initiation of modulator therapy, 24% of the patients with reported ENT visits saw an ENT after starting modulator therapy. CRS can contribute to morbidity in CF patients with most patients requiring surgical intervention in their lifetime. Additionally, persistent sinonasal symptoms can reduce the quality of life in CF patients. Despite treatment with modulator therapies, otolaryngologists continue to have a role in interdisciplinary CF management.CF- Cystic Fibrosis; CFTR- Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Regulator; CRS- Chronic Rhinosinusitis; EMR- Electronic Medical Record; ENT- Otolaryngologist","PeriodicalId":338895,"journal":{"name":"Journal of ENT and Healthcare","volume":"34 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139350240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Analysis of changes in the morphological characteristics of neurons in such phylogenetically different parts of the rat cerebral cortex in different periods after total cerebral ischemia. Methodology. Experiments were performed on 42 male outbred white rats with an initial weight of 240±20 g. Total cerebral ischemia in outbred white rats was modeled by decapitation. The material was taken at the 1st, 5th, 15th, 30th, and 60th minutes, as well as 5 and 24 hours after decapitation. Results. With total cerebral ischemia, a significant decrease in the size of neurons and deformation of the perikarya were observed. Normochromic neurons completely disappeared at the 60th minute. The number of hyperchromic neurons increased and then progressively decreased. Shriveled neurons accounted for the majority of cells in the studied areas of the cortex at 30-60 minutes, and then, after 5 and 24 hours, cells with pericellular edema predominated in the neuron population. Conclusion. The obtained data on histological changes in neurons of phylogenetically different parts of the cerebral cortex in the dynamics of total cerebral ischemia provide the basis for further detailed study of post-mortem changes in the brain, determining the time of death, creating a fundamental basis for studying the properties of neurons, including their transition from one functional state to other.","PeriodicalId":338895,"journal":{"name":"Journal of ENT and Healthcare","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122073029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is a range of different symptoms depending on the type. There are several different types of blood disorders such as Leukemia, chronic myelocytic leukemia, lymphoma, myelofibrosis, polycythemia, Thrombocytopenia, anemia and Leukocytosis. Some resolve completely with therapy, or do not cause symptoms and do not affect overall lifespan Some are chronic and lifelong but do not affect how long you live. Other blood disorders, like sickle cell disease and blood cancers, can be fatal. Thereneeds to capture of hidden information in the medical data for detecting diseases in the early stage. In this study, we apply the Ensemble Learning technique for classification. We compared our result with other classification methods. The results show that Ensemble Learning methods can predict the Tumor of blood disease better than the other classifiers.","PeriodicalId":338895,"journal":{"name":"Journal of ENT and Healthcare","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127687371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its prevalence has been reported to range from 0.19 to 8.1 per 10000 live births (2). There are different theories for explaining the etiology of amniotic bands, but it has been considered to have a multifactorial etiology. (2) Fetoscopic release of amniotic bands affecting one or more extremities can prevent limb loss or preserve limb function when distal fellow is still identifiable on preoperative ultrasound scans (3)(4). ABS occurs in 77% of fetuses with multiple anomalies (5). Both males and females are equally affected (6). Osteomyelitis in neonates is relatively uncommon, but burdened with an increased hospital stay and possible long‐term sequela if not diagnosed on time (18). The long bones are the most frequently affected sites (18).Case presentation: Here we are introducing a neonate with left upper extremity necrosis due to ABS which needed amputation and it was associated with severe chronic osteomyelitis.Conclusion: Amniotic band syndrome mostly involves the limbs. It is important to diagnose it as soon as possible, because with the interprofessional teamwork approach, an optimal patient result with fetoscopic or surgery procedures could be achieved.","PeriodicalId":338895,"journal":{"name":"Journal of ENT and Healthcare","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123404174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
