One of the most important recent developments in distributed computing systems not only in Asia, but also worldwide, is grid computing, which emphasizes computing and information resources sharing through large-scale distributed computing networks. The first three panelists will address this important topic.","PeriodicalId":336871,"journal":{"name":"Future Trends of Distributed Computer Systems","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2004-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120924679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Grid integrates and coordinates resources and users that live within different control domains with the goal of delivering nontrivial quality of service (QoS). Consequently, task management and scheduling is of central importance for the Grid-based systems. In this paper, we model the task dispatching and selecting on the distributed Grid computing system by a multiserver multiqueue (MSMQ) model, and propose a modeling and analysis technique based on Stochastic Petri Net (SPN) methods. An approximate analysis technique is also proposed to reduce the complexity of the model.","PeriodicalId":336871,"journal":{"name":"Future Trends of Distributed Computer Systems","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121732497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Grid, that is supposed to be the new generation information infrastructure, is attracting more and more attention in both academic and industrial communities. A test-bed for Grid technologies, the China National Grid (CNGrid), is currently supported by the China National High-tech R and D Program (the 863 program). This paper attempts to give an overview of the objective and major research activities of the CNGrid project. The current status and progress made are briefly reported. The prospective and further development efforts are also discussed.","PeriodicalId":336871,"journal":{"name":"Future Trends of Distributed Computer Systems","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125582099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
