The discreetly preserved object bears a matrix inscription consisting of an idionym in genitive case: Παμφίλου, from Pamphilos, identifying the φαρμακοπώλης according to whose recipe the medicamentum was made. The name is massively attested in Attica and the object therefore seems referable, in terms of form and material of manufacture, to the ‘Athenian or Central-Mediterranean’ area.","PeriodicalId":329402,"journal":{"name":"7 | 1 | 2023","volume":"182 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114385828","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first section prohibits a hurting of the sacred fishes and the sanctuary goods, and it is followed by a course against those who disobey. The mention of the sacred fishes may suggest that the Goddess associated with these animals may be the Syrian goddess Atargatis. It is possible that, in the late Hellenistic period, a community of Syrians settled in Smyrna, founding the sanctuary of its local deity and promoting her cult, as happened in Delos and other Greek ports.","PeriodicalId":329402,"journal":{"name":"7 | 1 | 2023","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134316249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From a historical point of view, this Upper Egyptian inscription testifies the dynastic conflict between Ptolemy VIII and Cleopatra II, but also the movement of men and goods in the Egyptian Eastern Desert at a crucial moment in Ptolemaic history. Furthemore, it can also be interpreted as a revealing autobiographical statement and a certificate of loyalty in which the contours of the god (an interpretatio Graeca of Min) and the king seem to merge together.","PeriodicalId":329402,"journal":{"name":"7 | 1 | 2023","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122276193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to settling political disputes between cities, Mummius left several offerings and monuments in important cities, temples, and sanctuaries. Taking as a starting point this dedication by Lucius Mummius of an equestrian statue to the Olympian Zeus, we will analyse the different media and communication strategies employed by Lucius Mummius to mark his victory and his exploits in the collective memory of the Greeks.","PeriodicalId":329402,"journal":{"name":"7 | 1 | 2023","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115494741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After recalling the various hypotheses about the document’s historical context, the most recent one, though neglected, is endorsed: the two characters were archons of Neapolis, who arranged the defences of Aenaria during the First or Second Punic War. New considerations are provided about the archonship at Neapolis, besides a complete historical commentary of the document, whose importance for the history of the Neapolitan constitution is highlighted.","PeriodicalId":329402,"journal":{"name":"7 | 1 | 2023","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121969430","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, the discovery of two new vascular graffiti, as part of an unloading of ceramic and architectural evidence probably belonging to the sacred sphere, seems to offer new insights into the reconstruction of the topography and the cultic attribution of the sacred area of the Doric Temple in Piazza Castello.","PeriodicalId":329402,"journal":{"name":"7 | 1 | 2023","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122695212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The inscription, which is very fragmentary, refers to people who were granted a meal at public expense (sitesis), including the descendants of the tyrannicides, Harmodios and Aristogeiton; perhaps the pythochrestoi or, better, the manteis selected by Apollo; the winners of one of the four agonies of the periodos; and probably the strategoi. The paper also argues the hypothesis that the decree concerned not only the sitesis but also the proedria.","PeriodicalId":329402,"journal":{"name":"7 | 1 | 2023","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114788576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

BC and the beginning of the 1st c. AD. The technique of making the inscription, which was imprinted inside the mould after being scratched on the patrix, is not widespread in the Taranto area. The inscription, a Roman anthroponym written in Greek language (a signature), represents an element of complex interpretation, because it remains uncertain whether it is to be attributed to a coroplast or to a workshop owner.","PeriodicalId":329402,"journal":{"name":"7 | 1 | 2023","volume":"426 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131716116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
