In the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, its correct practice is emphasized by public health institutions. However, turning a practice into a habit requires acceptance for adoption of the twenty-second proper procedure to which difficulty remains. To promote and convince the average user, we developed the “APD Handwash app” as a home-use demonstration/education tool to the pitfalls and need of proper handwashing practices through the detection of assigned clean or dirty areas on the hand in a quantitative manner to provide a gauge to the effectiveness of washing when used before and after washing.","PeriodicalId":320608,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Phone apps and Mobile Device","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125734532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With lockdowns implemented in many countries, scientific research such as biomedical sciences, experienced major disruptions in the access and supply of research materials and equipment. With these disruptions, the dependence of research on centralized infrastructure had become apparent. Without the scientific equipment and the associated infrastructure, many aspects of research grinded to a halt. Yet, this highlights the need for adaptations to build our own devices, particularly how scientific apps and mobile devices including the “Internet of Things” can help. In this, a phrase that I previously used to describe the early work of scientific phone apps – “Set My Scientists Free” seems apt to describe a much-needed change.","PeriodicalId":320608,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Phone apps and Mobile Device","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124248945","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To alleviate these problems, the “Antibody & Product Development Lab (APD) Reference App” was created for easy reference search, and citation in different formats by using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to capture the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) or title of a publication. Following this, users can easily retrieve, browse, and read translated summaries of the articles of interest. Incorporating Natural Language Processing (NLP), the app is available on both Google and Apple app stores with trials available for paid features.","PeriodicalId":320608,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Phone apps and Mobile Device","volume":"186 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123000801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Demands for increased accessibility and preference for flexibility in data collection have resulted in an influx of technological innovations and adaptations of existing tools. Yet, the usability of digital adaptations of self-reported measures have not been well studied. This research investigated the comparability and reliability of the empirically-validated Multi-System Model of Resilience Inventory through two modalities: an online survey platform, and a digital mobile application. User experiences of the mobile application in research was also studied. Implications of the findings for the use of digital applications in research in healthcare and social sciences are discussed.","PeriodicalId":320608,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Phone apps and Mobile Device","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126274592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
