This study investigates the performance characteristics of several natural fibre based brake pads used in disc brakes by integrating experimental data and numerical analysis. Four brake pad specimens based on Jute, Coconut coir, Banana and Oil palm were fabricated via a powder metallurgy technique. Their physical and mechanical properties were experimentally determined. These properties were then used as an input for numerical analysis to evaluate the performance in terms of stress, pressure and wear depths, at three different speeds. It was concluded that wear depth of brake pad increases with increase in speed. Among them, jute based brake pad depicted minimum average wear depths whose value equal to 0.12 mm, 0.15 mm, and 0.24 mm at three speeds respectively.","PeriodicalId":291341,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials Research (formerly Zeitschrift fuer Metallkunde)","volume":"116 4","pages":"240-254"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147905076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The role of four anions in the reaction system, chloride (Cl ⁻ ), nitrate (NO 3 ⁻ ), sulfate (SO 4 2⁻ ), and acetate (C 2 H 3 O 2 2⁻ ) was systematically investigated to determine the properties of the MgO. Standard characterization techniques were used, such as X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and surface area and pore size interpretations. The kinetics and adsorption isotherm were studied for removal of the dye methyl orange. The dye’s rapid removal led to equilibrium being reached within 5 min. The correlation coefficient values indicate more applicability of pseudo-second-order kinetics than the pseudo-first-order kinetics. Both physisorption and chemisorption can be a pathway towards successfully removing methyl orange. The adsorption isotherm shows that the maximum capacity of the material is very high, 1,062 mg/g for MGO-A. In light of these results, it appears this material holds promise as a dye removal material.","PeriodicalId":291341,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Materials Research (formerly Zeitschrift fuer Metallkunde)","volume":"115 10","pages":"773-780"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147901658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
