There exist various content assessment methods which usually consider at least one of syntactic, semantic and structural perspectives through information retrieval or machine learning algorithms. In this paper, a framework for assessing learning materials based on analytical, combinational learning algorithms is represented that is capable of assisting advisors in their selection for recommending those contents to students. The focus of proposed framework is on determining required fitness in educational summaries by semantic rules. The proposed framework is examined on a dataset of summaries and compared to the expert's assessment on the same learning materials. The comparison results reveal that the proposed semantic advisor-assisting framework was successful in almost 70% of cases.","PeriodicalId":275582,"journal":{"name":"6th National and 3rd International Conference of E-Learning and E-Teaching","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129727772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand with the emergence of Web 2.0 and high interest for using its technologies such as tagging, annotating and social networking caused to more users participation than before. In this regard, one of the most popular technologies is Tagging. Usually users used to place tags on the contents as a reminder in future. In this paper, a novel method is proposed to assess the learners' understandings. The mentioned method which is named TagAssessment computes the figure of relationship between the contents and the user's tags and utilizes the obtained results for learner assessment. In this regard, the semantic distance between the tags associated to the content, and the concepts covered by the same content is calculated using WordNet tree ontology. In the evaluation process, ninety learners were asked to place their tags on the contents related to a BSc course to create a data set for further evaluation. The obtained results showed that as the smaller the distance between the learners' tags and the contents are the better comprehension have been achieved.","PeriodicalId":275582,"journal":{"name":"6th National and 3rd International Conference of E-Learning and E-Teaching","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127546691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quality management is a developing system which provides a set of “Procedures”,” Tools” and “Training Methods” for the management. For instance, QFD technique (Quality Function Deployment) is one method on which this paper is based. This paper shows how an e-University can translate the customer`s voice into technical requirements in order to deliver high quality program and service in e-Learning. In this regard, by selecting a target community from among undergraduate and postgraduate students in the investigated university, their needs were extracted through interviews with focus groups. Then they were categorized under three categories by the technical team: 1e-Learning system 2e-content and 3Virtual(online) classes, In the next step, technical requirements corresponding with each need were identified by QFD team and finally, by creating the House of Quality and QFD techniques, some Solutions (Technical Requirements) which lead to the most customer satisfaction were identified. In fact, the result of this research will allow the managers to identify and prioritize technical requirements in three areas (eLearning system, e-Content and Virtual class) with regard to financial resources limitations, technological possibilities and the importance of customer needs, along with the aim of reaching the highest level of customer satisfaction.","PeriodicalId":275582,"journal":{"name":"6th National and 3rd International Conference of E-Learning and E-Teaching","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116992754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Strengthening the Performance of eTeachers1 is the main way to deal with this issue. One of the important influences on eTeachers' performance is their attitudes and perceptions about their roles. This paper focuses on perceptions of eTeachers' roles in the University of Tehran. We have applied the inductive research technique Q_methodology, which is a research method used to study people's “subjectivity”, to investigate the views of 31 eTeachers about their roles. The results show that these members have four distinct conceptions about eTeachers' roles which are based on their techniques and devices in eLearning web. The authors labeled these conceptions as: knowledge transmitter, participator, intermediary, and eContent designer. The four conceptions will examine in more details and are interpreted based on existing theories in the final section of this paper.","PeriodicalId":275582,"journal":{"name":"6th National and 3rd International Conference of E-Learning and E-Teaching","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126652144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A questionnaire is a practical way to gather information on learning style. There are some problems in questionnaire usage such as reluctance to answer questions, random guesses, taking too much time and invalid answers. In this paper, we have introduced the new parameters saved in Learning Management System(LMS) log files that are equivalent to learning approaches questionnaire. This research has been performed using40MSce-learning students on four different courses and in three phases(stages)at Tarbiat Modares University. The results derived from the questionnaire were acquired according to the learners' learning style in the first phase and in the second one were derived on Bayesian Network(BN) approach. The results based on log file and network help were taken in the third phase. It is mentioned that the third results had the least uncertainty range due to BN approach. Finally equivalent parameters for each question and for each learning style dimension are introduced based on some applied LMS package such as Moodle and Sakai. The main points in this research are as below: learning style extraction based on all the learners' activities in LMS (in a day, in a course and in a semester) and not only based on his/her related activities. For instance, the results show that the learner is more active and general if he/she considers his/her other class mates's profile or add/complete (in forums) during exact time to study. These results can be applied in Personalized Intelligent Tutoring System(PITS) in e-learning environment and so in designing recommender system to increase learners' and tutors' satisfaction level.","PeriodicalId":275582,"journal":{"name":"6th National and 3rd International Conference of E-Learning and E-Teaching","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129682099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve learners' participation in e-learning is a significant issue in debates on online learning and has been argued to be an intrinsic part of learning. This study was tried to find and categorize factors that influence learners to participate in an online course. Developing a model, we have illustrated the effect of six factors, categorized in three dimensions, on participation in e-learning. Dimensions include: learner, instructor, and course. We have also defined three mediator factors: Motivation to learn, Perceived Usefulness, and Perceived Ease of use.","PeriodicalId":275582,"journal":{"name":"6th National and 3rd International Conference of E-Learning and E-Teaching","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124879742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The huge number of messages makes it hard for participants to find their related topics and make an efficient contribution. Current research investigates the relevance of discussion posts to their containing forums, as well as extracting each learner's most frequent topics, via utilizing some information retrieval techniques. Results have retrieved a large number of posts irrelevant to their related forums. In addition, there are some weak contributions. In order to make learners contribution more informative and beneficial, this paper has proposed a new approach which emphasizes on training participants, and evaluating their related activities. The proposed approach has been applied in some academic courses in University of Tehran, department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The results have revealed some considerable improvements in comparison to the traditional forums. Research outcomes may be used in building learners profiles more precise and providing forums discussions with more valuable learners' contributions.","PeriodicalId":275582,"journal":{"name":"6th National and 3rd International Conference of E-Learning and E-Teaching","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131628409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The focus of this study is to measure the effects of delivering textual and visual scaffolding in a computerized fashion on L2 readers' comprehension processes and, in this way, bring to surface the hidden `floor effects' (Caffery et al. (2008). The study relied upon Vygotsky's (1978) notion of ZPD, Brown's (Brown & Ferrara, 1985) Graduated Prompt Approach and Guthke's (2000) recently developed computerized model of dynamic assessment (C-DA). The cohort consisted of 50 intermediate students of English major who took a dynamic test of reading comprehension. The reading text was a short description of an event given to students to identify their zone of actual development (ZAD). Upon their failure to find the correct answer, the manipulated version characterized by highlighting and underlining was offered and finally closed by the visual prompts so as to find the learners' zone of proximal development (ZPD). The results indicated that through computerized dynamic assessment one can more vividly diagnose the students' underlying abilities in terms of both independent (ZAD) and assisted (ZPD) performance abilities. From didactic standpoint, it is recommended that the C-DA be used as a complementary and more valid procedure to assess the reading ability of L2 learners. The procedure is also assumed to be useful for standardized, high-stakes testing as it lends itself to a large group of testees.","PeriodicalId":275582,"journal":{"name":"6th National and 3rd International Conference of E-Learning and E-Teaching","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116329577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our main goal is to illustrate the applications of EDM in the domain of e-learning and online courses by implementing a model to predict academic dismissal and also GPA of graduated students. The monitoring and support of freshmen and first year students are considered very significant in many educational institutions. Consequently, if there are some ways to estimate probability of dismissal, drop out and other challenges within the process of the graduation, and also capable tools to predict GPA or even semester by semester grades, the university officials can design and improve more efficient strategies for education systems especially for e-learning ones which include less known and more complicated problems. To achieve the mentioned goal, a common methodology of data mining has been utilized which is called CRISP. Our results show that there can be confident models for predicting educational attributes. Currently there is an increasing interest in data mining and educational systems, making educational data mining as a new growing research community.","PeriodicalId":275582,"journal":{"name":"6th National and 3rd International Conference of E-Learning and E-Teaching","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132996057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first step to adapt instruction to group of learners is learners grouping. Many methods have used to group learners in e-learning environment specially data mining techniques such as clustering methods. This paper aims to propose a clustering method to group learners using some specific learners' observable behavior while working by system and based on cognitive style. The objective function of proposed method is defined by considering two criteria in measuring the clustering goodness, compactness and separation, and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) method is used to optimize the objective function. This method used to group learners based on cognitive style. Results of the proposed method are compared with K-means, fuzzy C-means, and EFC methods using Davies-Bouldin cluster validity index and comparing the achieved groups and the cognitive style of learners who are in the same group, shows that the grouping accuracy is in a higher level using fuzzy-inspired PSO method and this method has the better clustering performance than the others and groups similar learners in one cluster.","PeriodicalId":275582,"journal":{"name":"6th National and 3rd International Conference of E-Learning and E-Teaching","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126514761","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
