A scheme of the output-dependent integral sliding surface is proposed and a control law is then designed to satisfy the reaching and sliding condition. Through utilizing H∞ control analytical technique, once the system is in the sliding mode, the proposed algorithm can guarantee robust stabilization and sustain the nature of performing disturbance attenuation in terms of an algebraic Riccati equation. Finally, the feasibility of our proposed algorithm is illustrated using a numerical example.","PeriodicalId":273892,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th Asian Control Conference","volume":"156 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133962474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem under consideration amounts to determining the minimal error in tracking a Brownian motion random process, which emulates a step reference signal in the deterministic setting. We consider both the unity feedback and two-parameter controllers. In the former case we derive an explicit bound, and in the latter an exact expression of the minimal tracking error attainable under the noise effect. Both results demonstrate how the white Gaussian noise may impede the tracking performance, and how the noise effect may intertwine with such intrinsic characteristics of the plant as unstable poles and nonminimum phase zeros.","PeriodicalId":273892,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th Asian Control Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126047930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to estimate unknown model parameters from measured state variables, we propose two schemes using the Lyapunov's direct method, called parallel and series-parallel model estimators, respectively. It is shown through a numerical example that the proposed parallel and series-parallel model estimators can be effective in estimating when sufficiently rich inputs are applied.","PeriodicalId":273892,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th Asian Control Conference","volume":"92-93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122633884","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The motion energy model is commonly used to model the responses of motion selective neurons in the mammalian primary visual cortex. Here, we investigate the hypothesis that these low level responses are directly useful for navigation. This avoids the need for estimating a model of the environment and the delay incurred in computing it. In order to discover the relationship between the neuron responses and the motor control required to avoid obstacles in the environment, we use reinforcement learning to train a robot equipped with infrared depth sensors to avoid objects using the outputs of simulated motion energy neurons by minimizing the long term average of the infrared signals it receives. Our experiments with a Koala robot indicate that the motion energy neuron outputs can effectively trigger obstacle avoidance motions in advance of those triggered by the infrared sensors.","PeriodicalId":273892,"journal":{"name":"2009 7th Asian Control Conference","volume":"470 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127547900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
