Applications are mainly focusing on increasing the customization of product design, reducing the product development time of rapid prototype, and reducing the 3D modeling and tooling costs. Product safety is merely assessed in the 3D printing applications. This paper explained the applications, technologies, materials and the trends of 3D printing in new product development (NPD) process in manufacturing industries. Four critical recommendations are explored to improve the product safety on the consumer products.","PeriodicalId":253797,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Symposium on Product Safety and Compliance Engineering - Taiwan (ISPCE-TW)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123898872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As per a study by Gartner, it is projected that India will be the second largest information technology market in the Asia Pacific region overriding Australia and behind only China by 2018. With the increasing market size, there has been a steep increase in import of sub-standard / poor quality electronic goods into the Indian market. In order to take care of this issue, the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), in September 2012, started the Compulsory Registration Order (CRO). The scheme came into effect on July 3, 2013.This effective date later on delayed 3months to July 3 then probation period is added 6 months to January 3, 2014. The DietY has been recently re-named as the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY). MeitY is the nodal authority who issues the standard and regulations including monitoring the product scope Bureau of India Standards (BIS) is the authority that executes the policy defined by MeitY and issues the registration for products in scope. We will talk further about how India regulatory standard (IS13252 (Part 1):2010 for ITE equipment) is different from the international norm (IEC60950) and the challenges faced by the industry in complying with the CRO.","PeriodicalId":253797,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Symposium on Product Safety and Compliance Engineering - Taiwan (ISPCE-TW)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130664423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, Testing and certification (T&C) play an important role to assure good quality and credibility when dealing with these global challenges from different directives and standards. In view of the importance of testing and certification, it may encourage more students entering the T&C industry. Content analysis methodology is designed to analyse the readiness of the current science and engineering curricula to support the undergraduates entering the T&C industry and explore the extent of the skill gap, if it exists.","PeriodicalId":253797,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Symposium on Product Safety and Compliance Engineering - Taiwan (ISPCE-TW)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128223096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A new classification of induction cooker was proposed based on the new technologies and construction invented recently, and the past classifications of induction cooker used. The corresponding energy efficiency on different types of induction cookers was studied accordingly. A new energy efficiency labelling scheme in Hong Kong was also proposed based on the recent situation and the new classification. This proposed labelling scheme can be used as reference by the manufacturers of induction cooker on the selection of power conversion techniques with various levels of energy efficiency.","PeriodicalId":253797,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Symposium on Product Safety and Compliance Engineering - Taiwan (ISPCE-TW)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128919853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
