Itching, persistent scratching, skin redness, and dryness are the primary signs of the illness. Many Cytokines are essential to the pathophysiology of disease, including the role of interleukin-4 and interleukin-25 as major players in the immune pathogenesis of eczema. This study was conducted with the aim of evaluating some seromic criteria that clarify the effect of some immune and inflammatory factors on the pathological condition in eczema patients and comparing them with the healthy group. This can help determine whether there is a relationship between the level of interleukin-4 and the high level of interleukin-25 and the clinical symptoms of the disease. The current study was conducted in Marjan Medical City in Babylon Governorate. Samples of (50) patients with eczema were collected after being diagnosed by dermatologists, and samples of (50) ostensibly healthy people were collected as a control group. The enzyme-associated immuno-absorption method (Elisa) was used to measure the level of interleukin-4 and interleukin-25 in the serum of all patients and the control group Serum levels of interleukin-4 and interleukin-25 are significantly higher in eczema patients at the probability level (P <0.05), while they decrease in the control group for the same criteria rates According to the results of the current investigation, patients with eczema reported higher levels of interleukin-4 and interleukin-25 in the serum than the control group.","PeriodicalId":249796,"journal":{"name":"Romanian Journal of Infectious Diseases","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139332894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the lifting of prophylactic measures that coincided with the start of physical teaching activities and the onset of the cold season, we have been confronted in pediatric wards with an increase in the incidence of virological infections in the pediatric population. In this article we aim to analyze the particularities of respiratory virological diseases in children in the season 2022 - 2023 both from the etiological and epidemiological point of view and the characteristic clinical forms of the disease. We conducted a retrospective clinical study of cases admitted to the Clinical Departments of Infectious Diseases-Pediatrics of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases “Prof. Dr. Matei Bals” in the period October 2022 - March 2023. During this period, we recorded 3.012 cases of respiratory virology in children, which represents the majority of pediatric pathology admitted (72,9 %). The peak incidence of respiratory virology occurred in December (688 cases). From the etiological point of view, most cases were SARS-CoV-2 infections, followed by influenza (predominantly type A), then a smaller number of infections with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), rhinovirus, adenovirus, metapneumovirus. The most common clinical form of the disease was moderate (66.9%), with severe forms accounting for 10.5%. All pediatric cases of respiratory virology admitted to our wards have evolved favorably, with no deaths.","PeriodicalId":249796,"journal":{"name":"Romanian Journal of Infectious Diseases","volume":"179 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139331735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Strongyloidiasis in a parasitic diseases determined by the intestinal nematode Strongyloides stercoralis. In most cases, this disease is asymptomatic, but the immunocompromised patients can develop severe forms like hyper infestation and disseminated strongyloidiasis. There severe forms of the disease are associated with bacteremias with gastrointestinal microorganisms which can determine infectious complication anywhere in the body. Bacterial meningitis is the most common complication of this kind. Case presentation. We present you the case of a 78 years old patient who initially presented in another hospital for suddenly installed aphasia. He was clinical and paraclinical evaluated and the suspected diagnosis was acute meningoencephalitis, so he was transferred in our hospital. This is a case about a patient with an immunocompromised status determined by recent infection with SARS-CoV-2 who was hospitalized and received prolonged corticosteroid therapy. The clinical examination performed at the admission shows a patient with mediocre general status, partially cooperative, partially time-spatial oriented and to one’s own person, discreet neck stiffness, anxious-depressive mood, with acute respiratory failure. A coproparasitological examination is performed which reveals the presence of filariform larvae of Strongyloides stercoralis in the stool. Also, a parasitic PCR test from a stool sample is positive for Strongyloides stercoralis. These clinical and paraclinical findings corroborated with those found in the cerebrospinal fluid examination establish the diagnosis: acute bacterial meningoencephalitis secondary to disseminated strongyloidiasis. During the disease’s evolution, he is confirmed with a new infection with SARS-CoV-2. He receives antiviral treatment, antiparasitic treatment, antibiotic treatment and symptomatic treatment. The evolution of the disease is favorable. Conclusions. The immunocompromised status of the patient determined the evolution of the infestation with Strongyloides stercoralis to a severe form complicated with acute bacterial meningoencephalitis. The difficulty in establishing the diagnosis of strongyloidiasis is represented by the fact that Romania is a non-endemic country for the infection with this parasite.","PeriodicalId":249796,"journal":{"name":"Romanian Journal of Infectious Diseases","volume":"41 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139331603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
