He is concerned that available resources are not being used efficiently in the county program. Although the youth organization is nonprofit and money and profits alone are not the primary concerns of the church, money is a practical necessity to provide the many services offered by the youth organization. Father Costello is particularly concerned with the financial results of the church's summer day camp, the largest single program provided in the church's county youth program. The camp is expected to make a profit to help finance its youth-program office expenses for the school year, when many other youth activities are provided.","PeriodicalId":248756,"journal":{"name":"Darden Case: Not-for-Profit (Topic)","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130342185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

W. Bush. The original mission of the foundation was to encourage more Americans to become involved in community service. The case illustrates how the consulting firm McKinsey and Company lent management expertise to assist with the early development of the new nonprofit. The case also explores whether Points of Light, once established, should join forces with another national nonprofit to expand its services. Students learn about fundraising and also about the pitfalls of reliance on large chunks of government funding.","PeriodicalId":248756,"journal":{"name":"Darden Case: Not-for-Profit (Topic)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129757697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
