The purpose of this council is to promote the value of Engaged Management Scholarship and to raise its profile internationally. The 2014 conference was hosted by the Ph.D. in Business for Executives program at the Watson Graduate School of Management in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University in the U.S. The 4th International Conference on Engaged Management Scholarship was held in Tulsa, Oklahoma from September 11 to 14, 2014. The theme of this conference was “bridging academic knowledge with business needs”. The focus of the agenda was on research that leads to the creation and dissemination of new business knowledge that is of benefit to both practitioners and scholars. Papers presented at the 2014 EMS conference were selected through a peer review process based on the requirement that papers were scientifically rigorous, timely, and possessed clear actions for practice. The conference consisted of research paper presentations, poster sessions, panels, invited talks, and a doctoral consortium. Conference participants were scholars who are actively involved in practicing engaged management scholarship or investigating different forms of it. There is a broad interest in the area of engaged management scholarship which is highlighted by the participation of attendees from almost 30 universities from Asia, Europe, and North America. For the first time the conference added a track for alumni participants and practitioner sessions for administrators and scholars, along with the traditional research tracks. The doctoral consortium was highlighted by a special presentation titled “Research Methods in an Applied World” by Dr. Leslie Dinauer, Research Methods Program Director at University of Maryland University College. The Alumni Consortium was a successful new initiative dedicated to discussing the particular challenges and opportunities experienced by graduates from executive doctorate programs. Dr. Denise Rousseau, the H.J. Heinz II Chair in Organizational Behavior and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University opened the conference with a keynote presentation, on the topic of “Evidence-based Management”. Dr. John Scott, Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of APTMetrics, gave a keynote talk on “Emerging Trends in Leadership Assessment”. Drs. Blaine Gaddis and Darin Nei of Hogan Assessments presented the second general session on “Individual Differences in Leadership: The Impact of Personality on Judgment and Organizational Performance”. There were two Best Paper Sessions held, one for macro-level business research and another for micro-level business research. The macro oriented session best papers included: “Dynamic and Improvisational Capabilities in Small Service-Oriented Firms: An Investigation into the","PeriodicalId":224419,"journal":{"name":"The Fourth International Conference on Engaged Management Scholarship (Archive)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116684881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
