Activated carbons have been remarkably used to treat dye contaminated waste water due to their large surface area and porosity, however regeneration and high cost have limited their applications. This study investigated the use of activated corn cobs (ACC) on the adsorption of methyl green dye from aqueous solution. The raw cobs were collected, crushed into particle size of about 600 μm and modified in-situ with KOH to prepare ACC which was characterized using some analytical techniques such as Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The absorbance of the dye solution was monitored at 620 nm with UV-Visible spectrophotometer. FTIR analysis showed the vibration frequency for C‒H, O‒H, C=O and C‒O stretches at 2950, 3400, 1710, and 1150 cm-1 respectively. SEM results revealed the ACC has a porous surface with heterogeneous pores which became compact after dye adsorption. EDX confirmed the presence of C, O, H and K in the adsorbent. The suitability of the pseudo-first, pseudo second and Elovich kinetic models for the sorption of methyl green onto ACC was examined. The equilibrium data were subjected to Langmuir, Freundlich, Tempkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm models. The pseudo-second order kinetic model provided the best correlation and was found to be more statistically significant. Langmuir model was found to fit well based on the high values of the coefficient of regression R2 and low % standard error values. The monolayer adsorption capacity Qmax was found to be 85.83 mgg-1. Thermodynamic adsorption processes showed the spontaneous, endothermic and randomness of the systems with free energy change less than zero, enthalpy change (∆H) of 62.47 kJmol-1and entropy change (∆S) of 125.37 Jmol-1K-1.","PeriodicalId":218309,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Frontline Research in Life Science","volume":" 19","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139138533","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to assess the effects of tillage and the cropping system with soil amendment on the productivity of sorghum and cowpea. The experimental design was a completely randomized block with the treatments arranged in a split plot and three repetitions. Four tillage methods were allocated to the main plots and four cropping systems combined with four types of soil amendment were allocated to the sub plots. The results showed that ploughing and tied-ridging generated higher grain yields of sorghum than minimum tillage and manual zaï. The two cropping systems 1) 2 rows of sorghum alternated with 2 rows of semi-erect habit cowpea and 2) 1 or 2 row(s) of sorghum alternated with 1 or 2 row(s) of creeping habit cowpea in interaction with soil amendments generated higher grain yields for sorghum ranging from 895 to 1097 kg ha-1 and stover yields ranging from 1913 to 2370 kg ha-1 in the third year of study. Minimum tillage and ploughing proved to be more efficient in improving cowpea grain yields in the cropping system of 1 row of sorghum alternated with 1 row of creeping cowpea with soil amendment. These results show that tillage and crop association with soil amendments are likely to optimize agricultural productivity.","PeriodicalId":218309,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Frontline Research in Life Science","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136278726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This concept is derived from the observation that the interactions between the micro-material particles of the human body are under a permanent dynamic process, forming complex compounds or decomposing in constitutive components, with absorption and release of information. On the basis of this concept, it is possible to describe coherently on one hand the metabolic and genetic processes from informational perspective, for the body maintenance and its growth/development or the plasticity of parts of it, and on the other hand the info-relation between its components, based on the “language” compatibility and right communicational operability between micro-material informational agents carrying the information to the brain, the central managing operator/processor of the entire organism, and between them themselves. The identification of the specific distinct components of the informational system of the human body allows to describe it as a communication between brain and body, performed mainly by YES/NO binary-Bit-type mechanisms, both at the macro and microscopic level of the constitutive cells. The analysis of the immune system within this context and as a part of the informational system of the human body, allows to highlight that this activity can be described by the same concept of information, showing that the basic operative informational processes consists in combined genetic and communication mechanisms, as the informational model of the human body and living structures and its concepts predicts and demonstrates.","PeriodicalId":218309,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Frontline Research in Life Science","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126470818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The maintenance of a constant free ionized calcium concentration is biologically important for these functions. Regulation of calcium levels is a pre-requisite for its maintenance. In this article, calcium homeostasis is reviewed in respect to the critical organs involved; gastrointestinal tract, and the kidneys. Also reviewed is the calcium sensing receptor (CaSR) which serve as a calcium regulator (calciostat) in calciotropic tissues and regulates other biological functions in non-calciotropic tissues. The purpose of this review is to discuss the normal regulation of calcium metabolism in order to provide the clinician with basic information for the diagnosis and therapeutic management of calcium metabolism disorders as well as related pathologies.","PeriodicalId":218309,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Frontline Research in Life Science","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124155011","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is characterized by multiple clinical presentations and periods of exacerbation and remission of symptoms of these lesions. The relationship between OLP and diabetes mellitus (DM) has been extensively studied, but with dissimilar conclusions. The main aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of DM in a tunisian population of patients with OLP. While the secondary objective was to describe features of these patients. Materials and methods: Forty-four patients suffering from OLP according to clinical and pathological criteria proposed by the World Health Organization were enrolled for this study. Screening for diabetic patients was conducted according to the DM diagnosis guidelines suggested by The American Diabetes Association (ADA-1997). Inclusion and Exclusion criteria were taken into consideration. The variables considered for each patient were: age, gender, medical history, clinical forms, location and extension of the lesions. Results: twenty-two point seventy two percent (22,72 %) of OLP patients were diabetics. No significant differences could be observed in terms of mean age and clinical forms between diabetic and non-diabetic OLP patients. The extension of lesions was significantly higher in the diabetes -associated OLP group than the non-diabetic group. Conclusion: Within the limits of this study it showed a high prevalence of DM in patients with OLP.","PeriodicalId":218309,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Frontline Research in Life Science","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125647511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This technique has been used to develop crops which are high yielding, resistance to pest and disease, high nutritional value, high oil content etc. Genetic engineering technique offers mankind the ability to develop crops with desirable characteristics within a very short period compared to conventional breeding methods. The use of this breeding method has resulted in producing some varieties of crops which requires farmers to invest low during production for higher income after harvest. The aim of this article is to summarise the known role genetically modified crops has played to reduce hunger and the provision of food with the required nutritional value in helping the world to become a food secured one.","PeriodicalId":218309,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Frontline Research in Life Science","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114922397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In spite of this, most natural forest ecosystems have been converted or modified into agricultural areas and other human land use to maximize single-purpose use. The objective of this study was to determine spatio-temporal pattern of land cover change in the study area from 1984 to 2019 in Sokoto-Rima River Basin. The methodologies used in the study area include GIS analysis for land use land cover mapping. The result shows that land-use change has taken place in the study area and that human activities had taken a considerable toll on the land-use change. From 1984 to 2019 forest area had decreased at the rates of 7.29% and 9.45%, while grass land increased by 6.69%, also farmland and built-up increase.","PeriodicalId":218309,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Frontline Research in Life Science","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131595309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
