Current literature describing the “safe zone” to avoid damaging the radial nerve at this location focuses on adult vascular anatomy. Radial nerve anatomy changes throughout childhood, and determination of age specific safe zones will help minimize iatrogenic nerve palsy in the pediatric population. Axillary nerve anatomy was also assessed. Methods: Electronic medical records were queried for humeral and shoulder MRIs that included the proximal humeral physis and the lateral epicondyle to assess the radial nerve or the lateral edge of the acromion and the upper 1/3 of the humeral diaphysis to assess the axillary nerve. Results/Discussion: Our study suggests the axillary nerve reaches its adult location around 14 years of age while the radial nerve does not reach its approximate adult location until 16 years of age. Before these ages extra precaution should be taken during surgical dissection and fracture fixation.","PeriodicalId":210341,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Techniques in Musculoskeletal Surgery","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128507343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a result of a mutation in the GNAS that can have manifestation in different systems conforming a complex syndrome named McCune Albright (fibrous dysplasia, café au lait skin hyper pigmentation and endocrinopathies. Case report: A 7-years-old boy, presented at emergency unit due to sudden pain and limping without trauma. Radiographic evaluation showed a fractured proximal femur, within an unknow cist, and multiple lesions on tibia and fibula. During pediatric assessment a skin café e lait patch was observed, and a genetic profile was performed with a general screening detecting lesion on skull, mandibula. The fracture was treated by curettage, bone grafting and plating. Conclusion: By assessing the patient in an interdisciplinary team, we treated successfully the proximal femur fracture and detected a rare and complex syndrome. A review of the orthopaedic treatment options showed a lack of guidelines so the idea of patients tailored surgery is the best option.","PeriodicalId":210341,"journal":{"name":"Advanced Techniques in Musculoskeletal Surgery","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134614942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
