The use of Sea Return Electrodes is the cheapest option to manage many possible faults. However, over the last years, many areas of seas were exploited, and they are now concessions for exploration and production of oil&gas. Pipelines connecting extraction pits to the shore were installed, and offshore platforms are increasingly spreading. The interaction of such infrastructures with the dispersed current cannot be neglected, and suitable mitigation should be adopted, taking into account their cost and their effect.","PeriodicalId":185809,"journal":{"name":"2023 AEIT HVDC International Conference (AEIT HVDC)","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128306170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A detailed techno-economic analysis was performed and, among the aspects considered, electrical export connection has been thoroughly investigated. The two technologies HVAC and HVDC have been considered based on their affordability: the results show an economic convenience in the use of HVDC cable over distances above 50 km from the coast, considering 1 GW offshore wind farm. Furthermore, a geographical analysis has been carried out to identify interesting areas for offshore wind deployment connected with HVDC technology in short-and medium-term period.","PeriodicalId":185809,"journal":{"name":"2023 AEIT HVDC International Conference (AEIT HVDC)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132772954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper investigates the possibility of using the HVAC pylons and conductor bundles, taking into account actual environmental (e.g. site equivalent severity) and anthropic sustainability constraints such as acoustic noise and electric field exposure of general public. Results show that, in typical application cases in a polluted and urbanized context, the OHL should be rebuilt on, or adjacent to, the existing line route, to attain a significant operating voltage and transmittable power increase. Acoustic noise and electric field exposure of general public are thus expected to be design constraints for the new 500 kV HVDC OHLs in Italy.","PeriodicalId":185809,"journal":{"name":"2023 AEIT HVDC International Conference (AEIT HVDC)","volume":"56 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134363392","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the intermittent nature of generation and the distance between large installations and demand centers often result in grid instability. High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems have been proposed to mitigate these issues and ensure a stable and reliable grid operation amidst the increasing deployment of renewable energy resources. This paper proposes a systematic approach to evaluate power systems that integrate PV and HVDC transmission systems. A comparative performance analysis of HVDC and HVAC Transmission Systems in the presence of PV generation, utilizing the IEEE-5-Bus Network is completed in this study, which can be replicated to other systems. In contrast to previous studies that focused on analyzing HVDC systems in isolated radial systems, this research investigates the deployment of an HVDC system into an entire network. The results of the study demonstrate the potential advantages of using HVDC transmission systems in power systems that integrate PV while providing a systematic approach to perform and analyze comparative studies.","PeriodicalId":185809,"journal":{"name":"2023 AEIT HVDC International Conference (AEIT HVDC)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126789230","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
