However, little has been done by the occupiers to address their occupational safety and health issues. The study assessed awareness of occupational safety and health hazards among workers in selected auto garages in Nairobi, Kenya. This was a descriptive cross sectional study design. Purposive sampling method was used to select Auto garages while simple random sampling was used to choose participants. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 20.0. Workers were aware that sanitary facilities was a source of hazards in the garages due to their slippery nature. Thirty one (12%) workers confirmed that machines and equipments in their work places were excellent, 128(50%) while 50% of them had contrary opinions. Few (22[9%]) workers confirmed that working benches and floors were excellent, 92(35%). The study concludes that workers in the auto garages in industrial area were aware that they are exposed to different occupational safety and health hazards in the categories of physical, biological, ergonomic and psychological hazards. Hazards arising from auto garages could impair the health and well-being of the workers; therefore, it is necessary to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control such hazards.","PeriodicalId":182490,"journal":{"name":"IJARKE Science & Technology Journal","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124446562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The number of people in need of health and education, among other public goods is large and increasing which in turn requires large amounts of resources, personnel and infrastructure. This is likely to be an impediment towards the realization of the reduction of child mortality, improvement of maternal health, achievement of universal primary education, environmental sustainability and combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. Therefore, the countries in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) Abstract Globally 214 million women of reproductive age who want to avoid pregnancy are not using modern contraceptive methods. The government of Tanzania in collaboration with other stakeholders put in places various strategies and policies to increase uptake of family planning services. These are aimed at increasing contraceptive prevalence rate (CPR), reduction in both total fertility rate (TFR) and unmet need for family planning services. Despite the various strategies and policies, total fertility rate still remains high at 4.6 percent; Kahe Ward has a low CPR of 26.5%. The purpose of the study was to examining the socioeconomic and social cultural factors influencing contraceptive uptake among women of reproductive age at Kahe Ward in Moshi District-Tanzania. Sample sizes of 421 women were interviewed through systematic sampling of the households. Data was collected from the women using a structured questionnaire and Key informant Interview. The data was analyzed using SPSS Version 23. Both descriptive and inferential statistics for different variables was computed. Chi- square was used to show the associations between variables. The study concluded that the contraceptive uptake was 56.3% which is higher than national level of 38.4%. Middle-aged women (in the age range 20 to 29) were found to use modern contraception than the older women Married women were found to practice contraceptive uptake than the others. The study revealed that 56.3% of women in at Kahe ward use contraceptive methods. This is inconsistent with the national average 38.4% (TDHS, 2015). Findings also indicated that 61% of women in marital relations were utilizing contraceptives methods. This concurs with a study by Hackert, (2014) who found that 62.5% of participants in marital union used contraceptives in Mwanza, Tanzania In this study it was observed that the use of contraceptives was significant with age which decreased with increase of chronological age till 30 years, thereafter increases to 40 years and later decrease to 57% by 49 years. These findings are consistent with other studies in Tanzania (Hackert, 2014), India (Lindh, 2011) and Jimma Town (Taye et al., 2015)which showed strong association between women age and contraceptive use. This is also inconsistent with the findings of (Tanzania Bureau of Statistics, 2010) where only 32% of women above 40 years were using methods of contraception as compared to 52% of women between 20-25 ","PeriodicalId":182490,"journal":{"name":"IJARKE Science & Technology Journal","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129909860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Information services for farmers at the national and regional level are a promising new field of research and application in the emerging field of e-agriculture. The development of ICT projects have increased in many agricultural fields to ensure that overall needs of farmer in business requirements are fulfilled. However, many ICT projects failed to take off such as a series studies produced. Reports suggest that the adoption rate of the small-scale farmers to technology is very low, in fact significantly about half in percentage. This is despite the significant impetus that phone and mobile driven gives to acquisition of necessary agricultural information. And yet, analyses of mobile phone based technology for agricultural development have presented significant gaps. Moreover, premised on the low adoption rates among farmers of all these mobile technologies, it has become apparent that a new mobile usage platform should be created and placed under keen consideration. There is evidently an impetus to initiate a mobile platform that would be built to take advantage and even synchronize all available technologies in order to present an efficient, timely, affordable and expedient mobile usage platform that would raise agricultural productivity. Using the Delphi technique is a way that such a technology can be conversed. A study was conducted on mobile phone communication in diffusion of goat rearing in Kitui in 2013. This study looked into the role played by the mobile phone in undertaking goat rearing. Another study conducted in Limuru sought to explore how dairy farmers can access credit better using mobile technologies. Though these aforementioned studies were focusing on mobile telephone technologies, there is limited evidence and information on developed framework for the mobile phone usage in agricultural practices in Kenya. Thus, a study on mobile phone usage and how it applied to agricultural practices was thus warranted. Thus, the aim of the paper was to use Delphi technique on development of a project performance framework for mobile phone usage in agricultural practices in Kenya.","PeriodicalId":182490,"journal":{"name":"IJARKE Science & Technology Journal","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121192327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
