(1) reported on the involvement p34cdc2 in two instances of apoptotic cell death. As apoptosis exhibits several features reminiscent of mitosis, it has been suggested that some of the cell cycle components that drive cells into mitosis may also be responsible for triggering apoptosis. The serine-threonine kinase, p34cc2, is essential for entry into mitosis and, if prematurely activated, can induce a process resembling apoptosis that has been termed \"mitotic catastrophe\" (2). Fragmentin-2, a cytotoxic cell granule serine protease, can trigger apoptosis in cells exposed to this protease in combination with perforin, a pore-forming cytotoxic granule protein (3). Apoptosis induced by fragmentin-2 and perforin was shown by Shi et al. to be accompanied by a dramatic increase in p34cdc2 kinase activity and to be inhibited by a p34cdc2 substrate peptide (1). Also, FT-210 cells, which carry a temperature-sensitive p34cdc2 that prematurely degrades at 39°C (4), resisted apoptosis in the presence of fragmentin-2 and perforin or staurosporine after pre-incubation at this temperature (1). These and other recent observations (5) suggest that p34cdc2 may play a key role in several forms of apoptosis. To explore whether p34cdc2 activity is a general requirement for apoptosis, we used the FT-210 cell line, in combination with","PeriodicalId":131409,"journal":{"name":"Alphabetisches Haupt-Sachregister zum Justizministerialblatt (Jahrgang 1896 bis 1901 einschließlich) für das Königreich Bayern","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1902-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130078333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They show different clinical behaviors depending on their origin site and genetics. Several data support the existence of at least two genetically different types of HNSCC, one virus-related and the other alcohol and/or tobacco and oral trauma-related, which show both clinical and biological opposite features. In fact, human papillomavirus (HPV)-related HNSCCs, which are mainly located in the oropharynx, are characterized by better prognosis and response to therapies when compared to HPV-negative HNSCCs. Interestingly, virus-related HNSCC has shown a better response to conservative (nonsurgical) treatments and immunotherapy, opening questions about the possibility to perform a pretherapy assessment which could totally guide the treatment strategy. In this review, we summarize molecular differences and similarities between HPV-positive and HPV-negative HNSCC, highlighting their impact on clinical behavior and on therapeutic strategies.","PeriodicalId":131409,"journal":{"name":"Alphabetisches Haupt-Sachregister zum Justizministerialblatt (Jahrgang 1896 bis 1901 einschließlich) für das Königreich Bayern","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1902-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126492529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper investigates teachers’ beliefs about Mewati, a vernacular language variety spoken by the Meo people living in Haryana, India. Data was collected primarily through detailed semi-structured interviews from local native Mewati speaking Meo and non-Meo teachers working in rural government and urban private schools. Nearly all teachers expressed unfavourable beliefs towards Mewati and discouraged its use in the classroom. This despite teachers candidly admitting students struggle, often as late as the eighth grade, with the standard language(s) of Hindi and/or English adopted as the medium of instruction. Viewing this as a rite of passage all students must go through, teachers normalized the status quo by calling it a ‘natural’ and ‘transitory’ phase. This article argues, however, that these teachers’ beliefs and practices leave students struggling for far too long during their crucial years of learning and development. 50% of students leave school before reaching the eighth grade in India (UNICEF, 2005). These high dropout rates found across Mewat and India more generally could partly be explained by student alienation. Part of this alienation is a result of disregarding students’ first languages which are stigmatized as ‘dialects’.","PeriodicalId":131409,"journal":{"name":"Alphabetisches Haupt-Sachregister zum Justizministerialblatt (Jahrgang 1896 bis 1901 einschließlich) für das Königreich Bayern","volume":"107 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1902-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132776881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
