EPH can be widely used in detergent and cosmetics as disinfectant and preservative due to its special properties in sterilization, anti-microorganism functions to pseudomonas aeruginosa, Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The effectiveness of adding EPH in detergent and cosmetics used as disinfectant, preservative and deodorant is described in some examples. So far the EPH is still used as an important disinfectant in the cosmetics market in America and in Japan. In the presence of sulphur and phosphor, direct chlorination of propionic acid by chlorine is the common method for preparation of 2-chloro propionic acid. In China, the main producers of 2-chloropropionic acid are Changzhou Dajin Chemical Science Technology Co., Ltd., Beijing Beihua Fine Chemical Co., Ltd., Shanghai Kangsheng Industry Group and Hubei Biocause Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. While there is only one producer, Daicel Chemical Industry Company, in Japan.
