Despite persistent interest from academics, the concept is relatively underdeveloped inherently complex and there are various aspects of social enterprise that remain largely under researched compared to conventional businesses. Given the advent of globalisation and increased competition social enterprises are under pressure to provide more innovative solutions to social problems that society in the UK faces. Through a comprehensive literature review of social enterprises, this paper scrutinises the evolution of these organisations as they adapt to changes in the environment in which they operates. The discussions show a cultural shift in the conceptualisation and practice of social enterprises in the country.","PeriodicalId":120431,"journal":{"name":"ERPN: Capabilities (Sub-Topic)","volume":"155 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126717231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tacoma, Wash.) tried to find out. The local Chamber of Commerce was the first group to work with Richard Florida, author of Rise of the Creative Class, and his Creative Class Group in an effort to grow a creative economy. The Chamber recruited 30 community members from business, government, the arts, education, and the non-profit sector to work for one year to address this issue. Florida’s Creative Class Group provided participants the background in the creative economy necessary to build on the existing economy’s strengths and form new competencies. They also provided some support as the community members developed and implemented plans to improve the creative economy. While tangible outcomes were few, the year-long experiment raised awareness about the creative class and its importance to the economy. The year also fostered connections between education, business, the arts, and the community that continue to develop as Grit City moves towards a stronger creative economy.The paper provides an overview of Florida’s creative class theory, then describes the process Tacoma used to promote a creative economy, from the initial building blocks, to the selection process of participants, to the participants’ preparation and charge, to the outcomes of the process. From this foundation, the paper explores how cities can engage people, business, government, and the non-profit sector to create a stronger creative economy.","PeriodicalId":120431,"journal":{"name":"ERPN: Capabilities (Sub-Topic)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128471996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper takes the position that practices for managing innovation project leaders are a key component of an organization's dynamic capabilities for innovation. Our comparative case analysis of divisions of two established Korean organizations suggests that managerial practices include the deployment of entrepreneurial resources having particular skills, characteristics, and motivation. In addition, we identify the relational and decision support roles of managers.","PeriodicalId":120431,"journal":{"name":"ERPN: Capabilities (Sub-Topic)","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-02-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114231571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Employing nested logit estimation, we examined the impact of various location traits such as: agglomeration, competition, deterrence, and sunk costs, on location choices. Findings reveal that the probability of entry to a location with high agglomeration economies increases with increases in resources and capabilities and then declines. Very large de novo entrants may prefer isolated locations. Stronger entrants are more detracted by local competition and incumbents' deterrence strategies. Weaker firms value more places with lower entry barriers and sunk costs.","PeriodicalId":120431,"journal":{"name":"ERPN: Capabilities (Sub-Topic)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131132094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
