Unfortunately, limiting the autonomy of vehicles is a major problem, which can be solved, in a first phase, by developing fast charging technologies and developing an adequate infrastructure to serve the end user. This article comes in support of those mentioned, highlighting the limitations of the existing methods and proposing the design and development of a closed-loop DC-DC buck converter based battery charger for charging a plug-in electric vehicle using the constant-current and constant-voltage (CCCV) charging scheme. The motivation that led to the approach of this topic is presented in the introductory part, with emphasis on the extreme phenomena resulting from global warming, with direct involvement of the factors that lead to the burning and consumption of fossil fuels. The second chapter, very detailed and comprehensive, is dedicated to Three-phase Controlled Rectifier, starting with topologies, deepening the mathematical model, adopting the Voltage Oriented Control (VOC) strategy to control the three phase rectifier based on high performance direct-quadrature‐ coordinate controllers, ending with overall rectifier simulation, using MatLAB Simulink. The third chapter actually presents the simulation part, with emphasis on the related diagrams, presentation of parameters, highlighting the battery charge controller for CCCV charging and presentation of the final results. Algorithmic controllers are usually functioning with restrictions for electronic component protection. This article presents algorithmic control for modulating the switching frequency of power converters to reduce both switching losses and switching frequency. A low volt converter for shunt active power filter is used as an application for showing the effect of adaptive switching. Least Mean Square Adaptive Linear Neuron (ADALINE LMS) is proposed as algorithmic adaptive switching for model predictive controllers used with power converter applications. The proposed technique shows the reliability of limiting the switching frequency, interfacing it with model predictive control. The new technique is applicable on electrical grid and aircraft applications. THD is kept within a stable acceptable limit <5% with less switching frequency. Mitigation of the adverse effects of such problems has been the focus of numerous researches throughout the past century. However, each genuine concept has its set-backs regarding energy consumption, reliability or protection. A Modular Multi-level converter (MMC) based Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) is introduced in this paper. The converter is to be connected to the medium voltage grid to compensate the reactive power required by the non-linear loads, thus eliminating the harmonics. The MMC out performs high-voltage/highpower converters in terms of quality output performance, high modularity, simple scalability, and low voltage and current rating demand for the power switches. A Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithm is developed to control the converter. Least Mean Square Algorithm (LMS) based Adaptive Linear Neuron (ADALINE) network generates the reference current. The threephase load current is measured and analyzed to estimate the harmonics waveform, which is then fed to the MPC to generate the optimal switching sequence for the MMC.
