Natural hazards alternately afflict areas of Indonesia, such as floods, landslides, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes. Non-natural hazards also often fall, such as epidemics, namely SARS and bird flu, forest fires in Kalimantan, Sumatra, and Java, and the spread of the pandemic that is Covid-19 starting in March 2020. Muhammadiyah – one of the moderate Islamic organizations that since its establishment is active in humanitarian work – does not stay silent to witness the suffering of the hazard victims. Muhammadiyah provides the necessary assistance whenever a hazard occurs. This study explores Muhammadiyah's strategy in overcoming hazards and its contributions in dealing with hazards from 2010 to 2020. The study uses descriptivequalitative research methods to achieve these goals. Data were obtained from scientific journals, books, internet sites, and interviews with the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC). The findings of this study are that Muhammadiyah already has a disaster management strategy, namely establishing Disaster Management Institution (LPB), creating Guidelines for Structure, Organization, and Mechanism of Work of Disaster Management Institutions, ending the MDMC in several regions and providing training, coordination and cooperate with internal and external parties, and establish Muhammadiyah Covid-19 Command Center (MCCC). Muhammadiyah's contribution to disaster management is to play an active role in the help needed by victims of natural and non-natural hazards in various regions of Indonesia.","PeriodicalId":106450,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The 4th International Conference on Research in Social Sciences and Humanities","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127234260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the development of technology and population growth, a large quantity of consumption goods such as food, clothes and dwelling is produced to serve people’s demand. As a result, humans are continually creating a huge production of waste. Industries and households generate an excessive amount of waste or garbage which is a major threat to the environment. If we do not address this issue seriously, we are doomed for environmental disaster. Regarding to this concern, one solution of waste disposal that helps to minimize the excessive residual waste is the use of 3R (Reuse, Reduce and Recycle). This process involves recycling and transforming waste materials into fashionable value-added items. Not only does it reduce the amount of waste pollution, but it also adds the value of waste and creates income for the people. This research project adopted the principles of arts and design to transform waste materials into value-added products such as home decoration items and fashion products. The process involved using the elements of design such as size, shape and color which resulted in beautifully designed and new products from waste materials. Moreover, the body of knowledge gained from this research contributed to the community. The people in the target community have been taught to make their own products from waste materials. Through the recycling of waste, they could create their new products while reducing the impact of waste on the environment. This research is, therefore, helps to promote job opportunity, sustainability and practical solutions for reducing waste.","PeriodicalId":106450,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The 4th International Conference on Research in Social Sciences and Humanities","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126137920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors developed the model of epistemological attitude, a socio-psychological theory of cognition of sources of knowledge and their content. The theoretical foundations of the model are epistemological theories of cognition, philosophical and psychological aspects of personality cognition, social contexts of scientific and non-scientific cognition. The authors suppose cognition as a process occurring in three spheres, which is reflected in four dimensions of the epistemological attitude model. These dimensions are described as epistemological sphere's dimensions epistemological approach and epistemological strategy, subjective sphere's dimension activity principle of personality in cognition, and contextual sphere's dimension cognition context. Based on the sixteen factors determining the content of the four structure model, a new instrument is developed to assess the use and significance of different sources of knowledge among students. In order to evaluate the degree to which the instrument has an appropriate sample of items for the epistemological attitude model, expert reviewers, the academics, university lecturers and professors, as subject matter experts connected to philosophy, psychology, methodology and education, participated in this study. Experts evaluated the content validity of the items (k =193) using the expert method, and the content validity index of the scale items was calculated. The experts' ratings confirmed the content validity of the instrument. Moderate inconsistencies in ratings across the experts were found and experiencing failures that reveal data quality problems are discussed.","PeriodicalId":106450,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The 4th International Conference on Research in Social Sciences and Humanities","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115388331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A survey-based observational study was conducted in scientific laboratories of a public and a private university in Lebanon, where a total of 309 participants were recruited to evaluate the knowledge regarding safety measures to be applied when collecting and storing waste. Chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests, Independent Sample T-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and ANOVA were used for comparing differences and associations among socio-demographic variables. Linear regression models were used to map predictors of knowledge score and its relationships with demographic variables as well as training on proper HWM. A significant association (p<0.05) was found between knowledge score and job function, years ‘experience, educational level, professional status, work schedule, and training on HWM. Participants had adequate perceptions regarding the impact of HWM on health and the environment. Linear regression modeling revealed that knowledge score was significantly higher among bachelor level lab workers compared to those with doctoral degrees (p=0.043), full-time workers versus part-timers (p=0.03), and among public university participants compared to those of private university (p<0.001). It highlights the importance to improve the culture, attitude, and practice of proper HWM in scientific laboratories.","PeriodicalId":106450,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The 4th International Conference on Research in Social Sciences and Humanities","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128263613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
