After the industrial revolution, material-based technologies received attention. Nanotechnology has a revolutionary part in the development of industries. Developing technologies cannot be considered without the usage of nanomaterials. Nano-sized materials have different properties than their bulk forms basically because of the increased surface area, surface reactivity, and energy according to decreased size. Carbon-based nanomaterials have a variety of possible application areas from biosensors to aviation. This compact review put a great deal of emphasis on the position of carbon nanomaterials: CNTs, graphene, and carbon nanofibers together with their main synthesis methods and their application areas. The reader can get a quick idea about the basics of CNTs, graphene, and carbon nanofibers and their fabrication techniques.","PeriodicalId":145165,"journal":{"name":"Research Anthology on Synthesis, Characterization, and Applications of Nanomaterials","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115639648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is due to the need to monitor the release and toxicological effects of pharmaceuticals into the environment. In this work, the authors explored bismuth sulphide (Bi2S3) nanorods and graphene as photoactive material for constructing a photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor for sulfadimethoxine (SDM) detection, exhibiting high sensitivity, stability, and reproducibility. In another experiment, Mo-doped BiVO4 (Mo-BiVO4) and graphene nanocomposites were explored as photoactive material to construct a visible light-driven photoelectrochemical biosensor. Graphene in the nanocomposites was very essential in immobilizing streptomycin aptamer through π-π stacking interaction. Morphological and structural properties of synthesized nanomaterial have been characterized using FESEM, EDAX spectroscopy, and XRD, while UV-visible DRS spectroscopy and photoluminescence have been used to understand their optical properties. The photocatalytic behaviour of synthesized nanoparticles was evaluated on the degradation of methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (RhB) organic pollutants under solar light irradiation. The highest degradation was achieved for MB (100%) over RhB (96%). Better knowledge of the different factors that concern deep desulfurization of fuels is necessary to achieve ultra-low sulfur content and cheaper way of producing ULSD. Both the capital and operating cost of the adsorptive desulfurization process is cheaper compare to the conventional hydroprocessing. In the future, the need to produce more volume of fuels with very low sulphur content from low-grade feedstocks like heavy oil and light cycle oil in order to meet up with the global demand for sulphur-free fuels is pertinent. Several on-going researches are pointing to the use of adsorbents for removal of sulfur compounds from hydrocarbon refining stream. In this chapter, varieties of carbon nanomaterials suitable for adsorptive desulfurization are discussed. If the active lifetime, where the capacity of the adsorbents are adequate, the approach is practically feasible for commercial application.","PeriodicalId":145165,"journal":{"name":"Research Anthology on Synthesis, Characterization, and Applications of Nanomaterials","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121864303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, commercialization of such pristine forms is very much restricted by low solubilities, rapid agglomeration during device design accompanied by poor electrochemical life and fast environmental decomposition. The blending with nano-carbon materials, metal oxides and other competent materials, may result in high quality materials– “nanocomposites” with superior features is ideally fit for future generation energy storage devices. The present chapter deals with detailed discussions on designing, the fabrication of such binary and ternary nanocomposites, correlating their morphology with electrochemical behavior, so as to optimize their supercapacitive performances. Such an attempt would help to outline the present status and future aspects of these materials which will be of first-hand assistance especially to the beginners to this field of research.","PeriodicalId":145165,"journal":{"name":"Research Anthology on Synthesis, Characterization, and Applications of Nanomaterials","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126456714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The chapter analyzes the state-of-the-art strategies used in the design of materials that support the different conditions of the space environment. These materials are aimed primarily at structural applications, electromagnetic interference shielding, self-sensing, and self-healing, although they are not restricted to these applications. The introduction of metallic, ceramic, carbon-based nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes and graphene, as well as two-dimensional materials have been used with a successful impact. Despite the significant advances that have been reached, much work must be done to achieve complete reliability for all properties required to protect the systems against the hazardous conditions found in space. Since the late 1960s, A. Fujishima has been involved in unfolding the fascinating characteristics of titanium dioxide (TiO2) as semiconductor oxide. The increased growth in population and industrial development has tremendously increased the generation of waste products and consumption of energy worldwide. This situation creates an immense need of clean and sustainable alternative sources of energy. Hydrogen, having a high energy capacity, is considered as a reliable fuel for the future energy requirements. In addition to that, due to the rapid industrialisation, our water is being contaminated with various harmful industrial effluents. This chapter illustrates the significance of visible light nanocomposites for the photocatalytic application of hydrogen generation for future energy security and dye degradation for the effective effluent treatment of textile industries.","PeriodicalId":145165,"journal":{"name":"Research Anthology on Synthesis, Characterization, and Applications of Nanomaterials","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115666365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
