These differences are called variation. The particular variation which is peculiar to a specific region or social group is called dialect (Wardhaugh & Fuller, 2015). The Hausa language is one of the languages that is full of different dialects. Those include Kananci (Kano dialect), Sakkwatanci (Sokoto dialect), Guddiranci (Guddiri dialect), Haɗejanci (Haɗejia dialect) and so on. This dynamism of language as a means of communication is what makes it an area worthy of research. The Haɗejia and Guddiri dialects are said to be the same by some researchers. Thus, this study aims to examine the differences and similarities between Haɗejia and Guddiri dialects.","PeriodicalId":421703,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Multidisciplinary and Advanced Studies","volume":"109 s1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139629074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The instruments for data collection were the questionnaire and the in-depth interview schedules. The sample size used for the study was 621 (615 for the quantitative distribution and 6 for the IDIs). The quantitative data gathered were analysed with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences using percentages (%) and Chi-square (χ2) statistics was used to test the three hypotheses, while the qualitative data gathered was analysed in themes as complement to the quantitative data. The study found that religious sex (χ2 = (615), .081; df = 1, pے =.776), education (χ2 = (N615), 2.024; df = 1, pے =.155) and marital status (χ2 = (N=615), .055; df = 1, pے =.815) had no statistically significant relationship with the effect of child labour practice while only age (χ2= (N=615), 14.577; df=1, pے =.000) had a statistical significant relationship. Furthermore, sex (χ2 = (N=615), .678; df = 1, pے =.410), marital status (χ2 = (N= 615), .012; df = 1, pے =.911), religious affiliation (χ2 = (N=615), .003; df = 1, pے =.957), education (χ2 = (N= 615), .310; df = 1, pے =.578) and occupation (χ2 = (N=615), .849; df = 1, pے =.357) showed no statistically significant relationship with the influence of child labour practices. Three hypotheses were tested and they were all accepted. Results from the regression analysis showed that only marital status had the most positive influence on child labour pratices. Results from the study has shown that child labour practices have negative effect on the child, thus, there is the need to eradicate all forms of child labour through championing sensitization and enlightenment programmes. Also, people who still choose to engage children in child labour after these sensitization and enlightenment programmes should be severely punished by the law to deter others from engaging in such acts. Finally, the study revealed that, government, youth corps members, community leaders and the general public have a role to play in putting an end to the socio-economic factors influencing child labour practices in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":421703,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Multidisciplinary and Advanced Studies","volume":"188 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139628998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objective of the research is to identify and analyze the lexical differences of the two linguistic communities at phonological point of view. The study is going to cover two important areas that will represent other Hausa speaking areas, one in Nigeria and the other Niger. In southern Niger (Maradi and Damagaran) the largest cities with massive Hausa speakers in the country will be selected. In Nigeria, Kano city will be selected being the largest Hausa city with several Hausa speakers and the Kano Hausa is the closest dialect of standard Hausa. In collection of the data, various written materials available Bookshops and online materials will be referred to; Besides, two research assistants will be co-opted to assist in collecting a proportion of some lexical items within geographical areas from both Kano, Maradi and Damagaran. An observation and interview research methods will also be used in collecting the data, as the research deals with spoken Hausa. The anticipated findings of the research will be identifying Certain English and French Phonemes with their closest phonemes inventory of the first language (Hausa). Also, to identify some of the principles of Hausa language that play great roles in the phenomena of foreign lexicon thereby making the incoming loanwords looks and sound like the native Hausa words.","PeriodicalId":421703,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Multidisciplinary and Advanced Studies","volume":"85 s374","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139629326","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Appah, Godspower Duoduo","doi":"10.37745/bjmas.2022.0391","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.37745/bjmas.2022.0391","url":null,"abstract":"This study investigated the effect of firm attributes on corporate financial distress of listed manufacturing firms in Nigeria. The specific objectives of this study was to investigate the relationship between six dimensions of firm characteristics (profitability, financial leverage, tangibility, liquidity, operating capacity and firms size) and corporate financial distress of manufacturing firms in Nigeria. Ex-post facto research design and a cross sectional time series secondary data covering the period of one hundred and fifty observations (2018-2022) was extracted from the audited financial statement of thrifty (30) manufacturing firms listed on the floor of Nigerian exchange group. The data collected was analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) of regression analysis. The result from the regression analysis indicated that profitability does positively and significantly affect corporate financial distress; financial leverage does negatively and significantly affect corporate financial distress; tangibility does positively and insignificantly affect corporate financial distress; liquidity does positively and insignificantly affect corporate financial distress; firm size does positively and insignificantly affect corporate financial distress and operating capacity does positively and insignificantly affect corporate financial distress of listed manufacturing firms in Nigeria. Based on the findings, the study generally concluded that firm attributes impact on corporate financial distress of listed manufacturing firms in Nigeria. Hence, it was suggested that corporate managers need to determine and maintain the appropriate level of profitability to ensure smooth operation and continual survival of the organization in term of short run but should be careful in evaluating the long term profitability.","PeriodicalId":421703,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Multidisciplinary and Advanced Studies","volume":"121 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139629108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) area in Sri Lanka witnesses a particularly high number of these accidents. This study aimed to analyze urban traffic accidents using GIS within complex urban networks. It employed a two-step approach, starting with a hot spot analysis based on accident times and types (fatal, non-grievous, and damage-only), using Kernel Density Estimation (KDE) and Nearest Neighbor Hierarchy (NNH) methods. Additionally, it created separate severity maps and compares the results visually, with KDE offering a comprehensive overview and NNH pinpointing high-accident areas. The KDE method was expected to benefit long-term traffic congestion reduction and safety enhancement. NNH's severity map provides immediate insights for road safety specialists. A mathematical approach involved calculating the Prediction Accuracy Index (PAI) for each method, revealing a notably higher value for NNH, making it a more suitable choice. In conclusion, this study recommended the Nearest Neighbor Hierarchy (NNH) method as superior for road safety analysis, offering important guidance for urban planning and accident prevention efforts","PeriodicalId":421703,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Multidisciplinary and Advanced Studies","volume":"67 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139184674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the plot, while telling the story, he provides a vivid description of the social and natural settings in which the action is taking place. He adopts the use of omniscient narrator technique as an objective technique that makes it possible to probe the innermost depths of the characters and determine their psychological and emotional states, especially in the protest against the whiteman’s domination of the land. Occasionally, he attempts to illustrate the ongoing action with a corresponding visual symbolism or external imagery starting from the title of the novel – A Grain of Wheat and the character – Kihika respectively. This paper examines stylistic/textual analysis of narrative techniques of Ngugi’s style of narrative in A Grain of Wheat. The purpose of this study is to analyse the colonial influences on the Kenyan environment using the post-colonial theory and employing the qualitative method to gather data as regards the use of narrative techniques in the novel. The findings are that the source of environmental degradation and marginalisation of the natives in the novel warranted the use of narrative techniques, especially symbolism and visual imagery as indicated and perfected by the author in A Grain of Wheat. His use of flashback techniques is to give the reader insight into the life and activities in Kenya. Therefore, this paper recommends the use of narrative techniques by authors as part of the thematic expressions of their works.","PeriodicalId":421703,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Multidisciplinary and Advanced Studies","volume":"6 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139184488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research predicts that participants with high social media usage will show lower scores on delayed gratification compared to those with low social media usage. In addition, the performance of participants on the Stroop task will differ between those with low and high social media usage. The study uses a combination of meta-analysis and primary data collection, where 41 students from JBCN International School were sampled. The results indicate that high social media usage is associated with a reduced ability to delay gratification, which supports previous studies. The results also show that there is a correlation between the time taken to complete a task and the willingness to defer rewards for greater benefits in the future.","PeriodicalId":421703,"journal":{"name":"British Journal of Multidisciplinary and Advanced Studies","volume":"8 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139184435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
