This paper presents a case where such a drive is identified as a flicker source as well. A VFD causes voltage flicker due to the fact that it is an interharmonic source. The interharmonics could beat with the fundamental frequency component, resulting the generation of voltage flicker. Through field measurements and simulation studies, this paper explains how a VFD causes voltage flicker problems and the various factors that have an impact on the flicker generation characteristics of a VFD. Then, the significance of improving of improving power quality which are nowadays applied to marine electric propulsion systems are analyzed. Finally, a new approach - the combination of active power factor compensator and series active filter aided by parallel passive filter - is proposed for marine electric propulsion system. The active power filter provides compensation currents in such a way that the utility supplies only the balanced fundamental frequency current at unity power factor, even if the load draws reactive and harmonic currents. The proposed scheme does not need to sense utility voltages, thereby reducing the complexity. In this paper, UCI control is applied to both four-leg and three-leg inverter topologies. This work shows the design of a new fuzzy logic regulator for a three-phase inverter using the strategy of inverter flux vector control method. Criteria for designing the fuzzy controller are given and a comparison with the hysteresis method is introduced. Harmonic characteristics in steady state and transient characteristics of system voltage sag are analyzed. The results reveal that the inverter system has capabilities to reduce harmonics and to control system disturbances. The purpose of the simulations was to investigate the extent to which the nonlinear currents generated by the microturbines in this situation might cause line voltage distortion. The presentation of the system of filtering starts initially with the presentation of the modeling of the whole of the system network, parallel active filter and polluting load. In second place, the principle of identification of the harmonic currents by the method of the instantaneous powers real and imaginary is developed, followed by the presentation of the new optimized SVPWM strategy control applied to the inverter of the active filter. A strategy which makes it possible to order the inverter of the filter to generate the harmonic currents required with the optimization of the number of commutation of the semiconductors used.
