In addition, many fuzzy control-based versions, embracing the linear structure of the conventional PI+D controller, have been designed and implemented. Although there are many reports proving a superior performance of these fuzzy versions over the conventional ones, there is still argument over the trade-off between the simplicity and the effectiveness with regard to the implementation as \"pros and cons\" for these two types of controllers. To help clarify these concerned issues, the paper presents a detailed study on comparison of conventional PI+D controller versus a fuzzy PI+D controller in the case of a subsystem failure. Simulations on an induction AC motor are carried out as part of the investigation. In case of failure in the feedforward path of the PI control subsystem, the finding shows that the conventional controller fails to perform whereas the fuzzy controller remains working very well.","PeriodicalId":344984,"journal":{"name":"2002 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2002. In this paper an induction motor drive with fault tolerance capability is investigated through an analytical model. After the faulted leg in six-step voltage source inverter operation has been detected, the motor is driven by the converter reconfiguration known as the four-switch inverter, but with reduced performances. Two possible modes of operation utilizing in different ways (four or six times) only four possible voltage vectors can be used. Based on space-vector decomposition technique of the voltage vectors we can find separate symmetrical voltage vector components. For both modes of operation an analytical closed-form solution of the motor currents and electromagnetic torque is derived. Analytically closed calculated waveforms are verified by experiments. We use combined background differencing and edge detection techniques to detect vehicles and measure various traffic parameters such as the vehicle count and queue parameters. Since the computational requirement for the vision based road traffic algorithms is beyond the capacity of conventional computers, we designed a RISC based array processor system to execute the image processing algorithms in real-time. To expand the performance of the array processor system, we chose a combinatorial architecture for the processing elements; i.e., we add some functional units to a traditional RISC architecture. These three controllers, namely the three-input fuzzy controller, the fuzzy plus integral controller and the fuzzy-PI controller, are described and applied to two systems. One is a zero-type-number first-order system whose input is a step, while the other is a linearized one-type-number fifth-order electrohydraulic servo system whose input is a ramp. The response of these two systems have steady-state errors without integral control. Simulation results show that all these three integral methods can effectively eliminate steady-state errors. The three-input fuzzy controller that produces the least overshoot and the shortest rise time is the best one to produce rapid dynamic response and minimum output errors. The controller controls climatic conditions including managing energy utilization in a plant tissue culture room. The chip has been designed to control four climatic parameters, i.e., temperature, relative humidity, irradiance and photoperiod, to promote plant growth and development. The climate controller is consisted of a processor core and subsystems, which are dedicated hardware components, i.e., I/O interface, climate unit, timing generator and user interface. The processor core is an 8-bit CISC microprocessor executing 30 instructions. Subsystems run specific functions to reduce processing loads and to simultaneously execute the operations. The processor core sends commands directly to instruct the subsystems. Exchanging data among the subsystems is accomplished through a shared-memory interprocess communication. The hardware/software codesign method is adapted for FPGA-based design. VHDL code has been used as a design entry. This equipment draws large amount of harmonic current from supply causing distortion in voltage. In addition they also draw current at low power factor. Hence it has become extremely important to control the supply from the ill effects caused by UPS since they produce a significant harmonics, which leads to additional loading resulting in the raise of temperature. The basic objective of this study was to collect data on existing levels of harmonic current, voltage, power factor in UPS, which will help utilities to deal with power quality problems. The utilities were Karnataka Electricity Board (KEB) and Diesel power supply Data collected during these studies have been analyzed so that a filter can be designed to reduce the harmonic pollution caused. Each specified disk region considered here provides the different time response. The micromirror system, which is complex nonlinear system, is converted to linear one at considered operation point using linearization method. Then, the relation between optimal control and pole placement constraint, which can be solved to have the controller from discrete-time Riccati equation is constructed. This paper presents a novel mathematical model for localized vibration effects on current measurement error in reciprocal fiber-optic polarimetric current sensor (RFOC) and its vibration compensation technique.
