It is now a feasible technology however its feasibility varies with many parameters such as: location where PV Power Plant (PV PP) is installed, its technology, economic and social state of the country and even the unpredictable future events. In short, it depends on the cost and revenue and so the legislation, incentives, market situation, climate of the location together with solar irradiation exposure. This study questions the differences in the feasibilities of PV PP installments in two Turkish cities by using Economic Feasibility Concept (EFC) a concept developed by the authors of this study. EFC includes the calculations of newly defined parameters: levelized revenue of electricity (LROE), levelized profitability of electricity (LPOE) and net feasibility measure (NFM). They are analyzed together with the well-known parameter levelized cost of electricity (LCOE). A 1 MWs of PV PP is simulated in two cities Antalya and Ordu, and its feasibility dependence on the location is determined. The results of economics feasibility analysis yield NFM result of 2.10 for Antalya while a quite low value of 1.43 has been determined for Ordu. Consequently, it can be inferred that going from North to South NF increases; in any case however, North (Ordu) is also feasible while South (Antalya) is highly feasible.","PeriodicalId":380858,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Photovoltaic Science and Technologies (PVCon)","volume":"14 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116805855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Forecasts shows the double growth of air travelers for Tabriz international Airport in the next 25 years. On the other hand, airports that operates twenty-four hours a day are responsible for maximum energy consumption. This paper discusses on re-design characteristics of existing Tabriz international airport in Iran based on Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) concept for future development. Based on Tabriz climatic condition and its solar yield potential, appropriate use of PV types including mono-crystalline, poly-crystalline and thin-film types besides various transparencies according to the form requirements and space function to produce solar electricity to meet maximum energy demands of electricity and heating/cooling demands are some advantages of the proposed airport design utilizing the wing skeleton structure. The research findings show that based on sustainable development and energy efficiency approaches, the proposed design for Tabriz international airport might be altered to the existing airport in the future.","PeriodicalId":380858,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Photovoltaic Science and Technologies (PVCon)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124629835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, air- and water-cooling options were simulated to investigate the efficiency behavior of a specific PV panel made of heterojunction Silicon (Si) whilst PV panel was cooling in operation by using ANSYS-FLUENT. For air cooling, two different options were suggested: air cooling with four different flow speeds and air cooling with a heat sink addition with three different flow speeds. As for water-cooling three flowrates were considered. Temperature distributions of PV panels for the all cooling options were demonstrated as a function of flow velocity of air and flowrate of water for different cooling conditions and compared with each other. The influence of temperature difference on panel conversion efficiency were also discussed. As a result, heat sink with a proper flow arrangement cooling option showed the best performance in terms of minimum material, minimum cost and minimum complexity with the 42 °C, 38.4 °C, 35.9°C average surface temperatures and 20.9%, 21.3%, 21.5% panel efficiencies.","PeriodicalId":380858,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Photovoltaic Science and Technologies (PVCon)","volume":"126 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126282779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, a single band k.p method is used for the calculation of bound state energy levels and absorption coefficients between bound states for the box shaped InAs/GaAs quantum dots. In this study, the effects of quantum dot parameters on intraband absorption and position of intermediate band energy levels are investigated. The results show that the bound state energy levels decrease with the increase of QD width and conduction band offset value. The QD height has less effect on absorption coefficients between bound states. Stronger absorption has been obtained for the smaller quantum dots. With the position-dependent effective mass, the bound state energy levels have decreased and the absorption coefficients slightly changed. The results found in this work will be the first step to design a realistic detailed balance model of QD-IBSCs.","PeriodicalId":380858,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Photovoltaic Science and Technologies (PVCon)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130591518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Purified powders were used as target to deposit SiC thin layers on silicon substrates by pulsed laser deposition technique (PLD). The purification process is based on the porosification of SiC powder followed by a rapid thermal annealing under oxygen atmosphere. The impact of the etching duration and annealing temperature on the purification efficiency was presented. The purity of SiC powder was improved from 99.9771% (3N) to 99.9990% (5N) with an impurity removal efficiency of 96.56% for an etching duration of 10 min and an annealing temperature of 950 °C. A significant enhancement of the minority carrier lifetime in silicon was obtained.","PeriodicalId":380858,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Photovoltaic Science and Technologies (PVCon)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128826235","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are three procedures that can be followed to calculate the potential electricity production of any system under different conditions. These are installation of sample systems and gathering data over time, the use of some databases/software programs to reach the performances and developing new model/methodology to make these estimations. It is obvious that installation of PV systems everywhere is neither technically nor economically conceivable. On the other hand, global software programs may not reflect local conditions to calculations. Consequently, there is a need to develop methodology that is able to derive location specific equations and coefficients and make accurate estimations. Its accuracy can be controlled by validating the results for some locations with the measured values from already installed PV power plants (PV PP). So, in this study we initially develop a methodology to calculate efficiency and electricity production performance of some modules for Ankara and compare the results with the measured values owing to the system installed on the roof of the Middle East Technical University Solar Energy Research Center (METU GUNAM) in Ankara/Turkey. The methodology initially calculates solar irradiation falling on the modules that is the input. Then the performance of the module is calculated by using developed methodology. There are also some online software programs to calculate the performances, such as EU PVGIS and PV WATTS. We analyzed and used these software programs and compare their results with the results of newly developed methodology. As proven through mean-bias error (MBE), root-mean-square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) statistical comparison methods, the methodology of this study has given the most accurate results.","PeriodicalId":380858,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Photovoltaic Science and Technologies (PVCon)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129489915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
