Curvilinear text lines and small gaps between neighboring text lines present a challenge to algorithms developed for machine printed or hand-printed documents. In this paper, we propose a novel approach based on painting algorithm by dividing of a text image into number of vertical segments which is called striping. As Arabic and Persian scripts present a lot of dots, we considered historical available nastaliq scanned pages for experiments. Results show the proposed algorithm is robust to scale change, rotation, and noise. The proposed method may contribute significantly for the development of applications related to OCR.","PeriodicalId":360013,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 IEEE 15th International Conference on Information Reuse and Integration (IEEE IRI 2014)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116730127","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Updating a model requires retraining with the new incoming labeled samples. However, labeling data is a costly and time-consuming process and designing algorithms which do not require all the instances in the stream to be labeled, is needed. In this paper, a new Reduced Labeled Samples (RLS) framework is proposed, which can handle concept drift in imbalanced data streams, by selectively labeling only those set of samples which are the most useful in characterizing the drift, and thereby generating an updated model with fewer labeled samples. Experimental comparison with state of the art imbalanced stream classification algorithms shows that the RLS framework achieves comparable or better performance with requiring only 18% of the samples to be labeled.","PeriodicalId":360013,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 IEEE 15th International Conference on Information Reuse and Integration (IEEE IRI 2014)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132294941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To run weather predictions nationwide, it is pragmatic to identify groups of geographic locations that possess strikingly similar weather patterns. This task entails grouping a set of geo-spatial points into clusters based on a several dynamic atmospheric factors such as temperature, wind speed, precipitation, humidity etc. In this paper, we present a dynamic heuristic subspace-clustering algorithm that detects geo-spatial weather clusters across all zip codes in the US with greater accuracy than traditional clustering algorithms. Our method also incorporates a set of heuristics defined by human editors that detects one distinctive weather feature per cluster, which can be delivered to consumers as actionable weather information (e.g., `don't leave work without an umbrella'). We use the proposed algorithm to drastically scale a popular weather app called Poncho, which employs a mix of editorialized and automated mechanisms to personalize your weather forecast experience.","PeriodicalId":360013,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 IEEE 15th International Conference on Information Reuse and Integration (IEEE IRI 2014)","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128419327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They permit two entities to share a session key in an authentic manner based on a human-memorable password. In 2006, Kolesnikov and Rackoff proposed an improvement to the Halevi and Krawczyk's PAKE protocols. In 2010, they revised their preceding protocol and introduced an improvement to it. In this paper, it is shown that not only are Halevi and Krawczyk's PAKE protocols vulnerable to ephemeral key compromise impersonation and malicious server attacks, but they also fail to provide key confirmation property simultaneously, one of which does not even satisfy Forward Secrecy attribute. It is also shown that Kolesnikov and Rackoffs protocols are susceptible to ephemeral key compromise impersonation and to Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks, nor do they satisfy Forward Secrecy, mutual authentication, and key confirmation attributes. Additionally, they are prone to the disclosure of pre-shared secret key. Two improved protocols, called S2PAKEvl and S2PAKEv2, are also proposed providing several security attributes, both of which are still efficient. S2PAKEvl has two rounds with mutual authentication and not providing key confirmation, while S2PAKEv2 is of three rounds holding mutual authentication and key confirmation.","PeriodicalId":360013,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 IEEE 15th International Conference on Information Reuse and Integration (IEEE IRI 2014)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125864176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such words as \"pivotal\" have been associated with the role they play on the semantic web. The role they play on the semantic web as well as their potential for reuse and the proliferation of ontologies in existence have heightened the need for their evaluation. They have been seen as approximate representations of the domain, thus their evaluation concerns itself with the degree of their approximation. This research deemed domain knowledge on which data-driven ontology evaluation is based to be dynamic. This is contrary to the underlying assumptions of current research in data-driven ontology evaluation. The paper hence proposes a multidimensional view to data-driven ontology evaluation that accounts for bias in the valuation of ontologies. The direct contribution to the body of knowledge is a theoretical framework that exposes these biases.","PeriodicalId":360013,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 IEEE 15th International Conference on Information Reuse and Integration (IEEE IRI 2014)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128807353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This semantics needs to be well defined based on a formal language that yields the fundamentals required for a rigorous validation of the specification. In this paper, we firstly provide this semantics through a new approach to translate the UML weak sequencing Combined Fragment into Colored Petri Nets, or CPNs. The derived specification is value-oriented, composed of identified objects and events, thus allowing a more precise analysis of the model behavior. The analysis deals with the CPNs good construction as well as their faithfulness to the real-world system. To verify that the CPN models preserve the system properties, we use OCL invariants. This use motivates our second contribution based on the association ends specification on the behavioral models. Such a modeling allows a deep exploitation of the OCL expressivity while validating the models consistency. The verification is performed on a predicate/transition net explored by model checking.","PeriodicalId":360013,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 IEEE 15th International Conference on Information Reuse and Integration (IEEE IRI 2014)","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127962633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although much effort has been dedicated for more than ten years, MDE has not achieved expressive use. In this paper we address the problem of a lack of a knowledge base about MDE-based solutions, a reason that hampers MDE in practice. To surpass it we propose a domain specific language named RAS++ that represents these solutions as reusable assets. Assets are composed by reuse structures and semantics for the execution of technical solutions for Automated Software Engineering, fostering the integration of tasks for MDE in development environments. Facilities are introduced through some supporting tools: one to design reusable assets and other to integrate them in target development environments. Practical experiences have proven to be promising, suggesting that reusable assets promote some benefits not allowed by other approaches, such as the possibility of a distributed base of knowledge for ASE solutions.","PeriodicalId":360013,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 IEEE 15th International Conference on Information Reuse and Integration (IEEE IRI 2014)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128070519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it is quite challenging for users to efficiently analyze and quickly understand the spatial data due to the inherently complex and dynamic nature of GIS applications. To address the challenges, this paper presents an approach to optimize the online spatial data analysis by mining the sequential query patterns from the user query logs of GIS applications. The sequential query patterns are used to automatically generate the query template, from which the users are able to quickly compose new queries. The sequential query patterns contribute to the workflow construction for complex spatial data analysis tasks as well. Our proposed approach takes advantage of the generated workflow to parallelize the independent spatial analysis tasks. As a result, the throughput of our system has been increased greatly and more efficient geographic information services are made available to the users. We present a case study to demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed approach by integrating two software systems at Florida International University (FIU): TerraFly (an GIS application) and FIU-Miner (a distributed data mining framework).","PeriodicalId":360013,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 IEEE 15th International Conference on Information Reuse and Integration (IEEE IRI 2014)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114189090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The quality assurance can be reached through the testing area, however this area still has challenges and gaps in the SPL development. Since not all testing techniques used in a single product development can be applied to SPL, because of artifacts variabilities, further adaptations and new proposals are required. Our proposal thus is to adapt some unit tests patterns to SPL needs. The Test Automation Framework and Data-Driven Test patterns can provide the reuse of test logic and the automation of implementation mechanisms, reducing the effort required to test the variations of each application. Thus, we propose the Data-Driven Test Automation Framework to be used during the application engineering to configure the tests through Parameterized Tests and verify the correctness of the generated applications. An example of a SPL is also presented.","PeriodicalId":360013,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2014 IEEE 15th International Conference on Information Reuse and Integration (IEEE IRI 2014)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129642231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
