The transient interface reflection and refraction properties are studied by time-domain method where the time evolution of an electromagnetic wave as it hits the interface is simulated and measured. It is found that the wave is trapped temporarily at the interface, reorganizes, and after a certain time, the refractive wave front moves eventually in the negative direction. What's more the refractive wave need longer time to build up than the reflected wave. Experiment results agree well with the simulations.","PeriodicalId":178493,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Antennas and Propagation","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132393877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a hybrid integral equation accelerated by the fast multiple method (FMM) is utilized to model RC and to improve the convergence behavior. The hybrid method's performance is studied and the error introduced by the FMM is analyzed. It is found that the truncation error of multi-pole expansion can be significant in some cases, which may become critical in modeling highly resonant structures like the RC.","PeriodicalId":178493,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Antennas and Propagation","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132721195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The delay that occurs during the break-off interval can vary from a few hundreds of microseconds to a few seconds. However, delay sensitive applications such as Voice over IP (VoIP) or streaming multimedia applications usually are unable to tolerate such long connectivity delays that fall beyond the range of 50-200 ms. This results in dropped calls or frozen video frames. To improve the deficiency, this paper proposes the preliminary study of managing the signal strength threshold to minimize handoff time by investigating the effect of changing the threshold at AP. Although different solutions are available in the literature, most of them proposed changes that were outside the purview of the current 802.11 standards. Our study requires no additional support from the network. The outcome of this paper indicates the good insight of using the signal strength threshold to control the handoff time for VoIP application.","PeriodicalId":178493,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Antennas and Propagation","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134127276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The parametric study is carried out to achieve the frequency response of 920-925 MHz according to Thailand standard of UHF-RFID system. The prototype antenna was fabricated and measured. The simulated half-power beamwidth (HPBW) in E- and H-planes are 65 and 68 degree, respectively. The measured HPBW in both planes is identical to 55 degree. Cube and Y shape base station configurations, time of arrival and first peak detection algorithms are used to estimate the position of the sensors that are placed near the surface of the body. Also spherical coordinate system is used to find the direction of the target. A comparative study is done between the TOA and TDOA method in terms of accuracy obtained in estimation of known coordinates. Results show that accuracy in estimation of location of the sensor depends on position it is placed on the human body as the presence of body would cause interference. The overall average accuracy in 3D localisation is around 2.5 to 4.5 cm for TOA method and 3.5 to 4.5 cm for TDOA method.","PeriodicalId":178493,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Antennas and Propagation","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126724440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
