This region’s harsh conditions often lead to plastic breaking down into microplastics and nanoplastics. This review explores the abundance of micro/nanoplastics across different environmental mediums, such as surface waters, sediments, and aquatic organisms, in sub-Saharan African countries. It also highlights knowledge gaps concerning the region’s abundance of micro/nanoplastics. The effects of plastics and micro/nanoplastics on food production, water quality, health, and the environment are discussed. Strategies to address the challenges of plastic pollution are proposed. Finally, the review concludes with future perspectives for addressing the ongoing challenges of plastic waste management in sub-Saharan Africa. The materials for this study were sourced from published articles on Scopus, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and additional platforms, including reports and various press releases, using keywords such as plastic waste, micro/nano-plastic, sub-Saharan Africa, toxicity, and circular economy. Articles were initially screened by reviewing abstracts, followed by a thorough reading of full papers to identify relevant studies. Key information was extracted from these selected articles and incorporated into this review.","PeriodicalId":23705,"journal":{"name":"WORLD","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140974183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study sheds light on the evolving landscape of data asset monetization in the maritime sector. The successful activation of these data assets has the potential to generate substantial economic benefits. By addressing ownership, pricing, and security concerns, maritime enterprises can unlock the true potential of their data assets and contribute to the growth and development of the industry. Maritime enterprises possess extensive and long-standing data assets, which have the potential for substantial value extraction. The first part highlights the global trend of data asset monetization and provides an overview of data accumulation by leading maritime companies. It also underscores the unique characteristics of maritime data, including relatively straightforward ownership and ease of utilization. The second part delves into the practical experiences and pros and cons of data asset monetization in various regions. The third part examines the main risks associated with data asset monetization in maritime enterprises. These risks include issues related to ownership and profit distribution after data rights are established, the possibility of data idling leading to a bubble effect, and escalating concerns about data security. In the fourth part, the paper offers specific regulatory pathways and recommendations to address these challenges. This includes resolving ownership attribution issues, implementing market-oriented pricing strategies with legal safeguards, and embracing technological measures for robust data security, such as distinguishing between information and raw data and ensuring the anonymization of original data.</p>","PeriodicalId":43537,"journal":{"name":"Fudan Journal of the Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140927401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, this is still a process with asymmetric information. Tourism research has matured within a small community and through a multidisciplinary scientific paradigm. This paper aims to understand the determinants of tourism research citation patterns. To this end, 101,968 papers within fifteen years (2004-2018) are analysed. Our empirical results suggest that authors’ prestige, the multidisciplinary nature of research, and the impact factor of journals and bibliometric articles will likely increase an article’s citations. This paper represents a step forward in understanding the citation formation process in tourism research.","PeriodicalId":46641,"journal":{"name":"Tourism","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2024-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140982037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
