摘要

虽然花寿命是开花植物中最重要的学术和商业特征之一,但对牡丹物种中支持这一过程的分子机制知之甚少。在本研究中,我们利用长fljg(牡丹‘Souvenir de Maxime Cornuand’)花瓣和短fllyh(牡丹‘洛阳红’)花瓣在三个主要发育阶段进行了RNA测序,并观察了五个选择阶段的花瓣解剖结构。

Comparative transcriptomic analysis of two tree peony species (Paeonia sect. Moutan) provides insights into long floral longevity
Though floral longevity (FL) is among the most important trait of academic and commercial interests in flowering plants, only little is known about the molecular mechanisms that backs up the process in species of Tree Peony. In this study, the long FL JG (Paeonia sect. Moutan ‘Souvenir de Maxime Cornuand’) petals and the short FL LYH (Paeonia sect. Moutan ‘Luoyanghong’) petals were used for RNA seq uencing at three major developmental stages, as well as for observing petal anatomy at five select stages. DEGs could be seen enhanced in epidermal lignin and cell wall biosynthesis pathways offering to a thicker petal mesophyll, epidermis, and cuticle, as well as a greater number of vascular bundles in long flower JG. Further examination of the expression pattern of DEGs revealed that the genes whose expression was up-regulated in all stages gets primarily involved in lignin and cell wall synthesis. The results at large indicate that the expression of these differentially expressed genes can change the morphology of peony petals and enhance their water retention capacity maintaining petal turgor pressure effecting a prolonged longevity of peony flowers. It emerges that these findings could serve as a reference for future molecular breeding applications in tree peonies.

期刊介绍: Scientia Horticulturae is an international journal publishing research related to horticultural crops. Articles in the journal deal with open or protected production of vegetables, fruits, edible fungi and ornamentals under temperate, subtropical and tropical conditions. Papers in related areas (biochemistry, micropropagation, soil science, plant breeding, plant physiology, phytopathology, etc.) are considered, if they contain information of direct significance to horticulture. Papers on the technical aspects of horticulture (engineering, crop processing, storage, transport etc.) are accepted for publication only if they relate directly to the living product. In the case of plantation crops, those yielding a product that may be used fresh (e.g. tropical vegetables, citrus, bananas, and other fruits) will be considered, while those papers describing the processing of the product (e.g. rubber, tobacco, and quinine) will not. The scope of the journal includes all horticultural crops but does not include speciality crops such as, medicinal crops or forestry crops, such as bamboo. Basic molecular studies without any direct application in horticulture will not be considered for this journal.
