These tools are being incorporated to educational practices, but there is a lack of empirical evidence about the relation between artificial intelligence use by students and their personal and psychological characteristics. Drawing a profile of students concerning their use of artificial intelligence is imperative in order to design effective learning strategies. This was a cross-sectional study including 1 761 undergraduate students enrolled in different degrees related to education and psychology. Data collection was conducted using validated self-reports that showed appropriate psychometric properties. According to linear regression analyses, low levels of self-control were related to a higher frequency of artificial intelligence use. Logistic regression analyses showed that self-control and self-efficacy were associated with using artificial intelligence to solve daily doubts, due to the need of interacting with someone and to do academic tasks instead of the student. Moreover, higher scores in self-esteem decreased the odds of using artificial intelligence due to the need of interacting with someone. The journal does not proselytize on behalf of the technologies (whether they be mobile, desktop, interactive, virtual, games-based or learning management systems) but rather provokes debate on all the complex relationships within and between computing and education, whether they are in informal or formal settings. It probes state of the art technologies in Computing Education and it also considers the design and evaluation of digital educational artefacts. The journal aims to maintain and expand its international standing by careful selection on merit of the papers submitted, thus providing a credible ongoing forum for debate and scholarly discourse. Special Issues are occasionally published to cover particular issues in depth. EAIT invites readers to submit papers that draw inferences, probe theory and create new knowledge that informs practice, policy and scholarship. Readers are also invited to comment and reflect upon the argument and opinions published. EAIT is the official journal of the Technical Committee on Education of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) in partnership with UNESCO.
