Background: Antioxidants overcome ageing processes and skin tissue damage caused by free radicals. The flavonoid contents of Bougainvillea spectabilis Willd contain hydroxyl groups attached to the carbon of the aromatic rings which makes them capable of catching free radicals and absorbing UV-A and UV-B.
