We identified harmful mechanisms: distanced encounters, uncertainty of interprofessional involvement, and compromising the safe space. These mechanisms caused distrust and disengagement. Ensuring trusting parent-professional relationships within interprofessional team-based care demands each professional involved competently engages in relational work and interprofessional collaboration.
