Abstract

ABSTRACT Research on children’s executive functions (EF) has continued apace for a long time. The papers in this special issue offer the reader a welcome opportunity to pause and reflect on whether existing conceptualizations of EF require a paradigm shift. This debate is informed by thoughtful discussion of the difficulties in assessing EF in different societal contexts, by innovative approaches to enriching the assessment of EF, and novel accounts of what underpins developmental change in EF, as well as how EF relates to other aspects of children’s cognitive development.
