Abstract
Terahertz (THz) beam tracking for mobile links requires not only full-azimuth coverage but also polarization control to ensure seamless connectivity under arbitrary device rotation and motion. This work presents a gimbal-integrated THz beam-steering architecture with electronically reconfigurable polarization that enables azimuthally omnidirectional tracking with orientation-insensitive circular polarization (CP). Two coherent THz signals are generated and independently controlled in amplitude and phase difference, then combined through an orthomode transducer to excite an annular-aperture fan-beam antenna. Measurements verify CP synthesis at multiple azimuths, achieving an axial ratio below 3 dB. Closed-loop azimuth steering is verified using an automated receiver stage, employing a hill-climbing algorithm. Furthermore, a hand-held demonstration using a head-mounted display demonstrates effective beam tracking under rapid user motion. The results establish a practical approach to motion-tolerant THz links with electronically synthesized polarization.
