Abstract
This column describes the development and evaluation of a multimodal nurse transition to practice program that supports an effective transition of new graduate nurses into the practice setting and fosters critical thinking and clinical proficiency. Because of its comprehensive approach, the Horizon Nurse Residency Program has led to a decrease in first-year turnover, elimination of the use of nurse travelers, and improvement in evidence-based practice competency, critical thinking, and hospital-acquired conditions, positively impacting quality and excellence in pediatric care.
