Therefore, this comprehensive review summarizes and discusses the evidence from clinical, <em>in vitro</em>, and <em>in vivo</em> studies on the association between Mg and DN. Several findings indicate that Mg depletion is linked to the presence of neuropathy in diabetic patients. Additionally, low Mg concentration may contribute to the onset or worsening of DN by promoting axonal degeneration through various pathways. Furthermore, multiple studies have shown that Mg supplementation can have neuroprotective effects. Abstract

Diabetic neuropathy (DN) is one of the major complications of diabetes and the most common cause of neuropathic pain.
