Abstract

A discrepancy between an inherent inertia in modification of electrical engineering curricula on one side and an accelerating process of rapid changes in microelectronic technologies on the other pose a growing challenge in engineering education. A group of universities associated with the consortium MicroLubs International in collaboration with Texas Instruments Incorporated has attempted to find a solution that not only addresses the existing dilemma, but also postulates the need for a new educational program, categorized as "distributed" curriculum. The "distributed" curriculum example is based on academic activities in the area of microelectronic systems design developed by different universities associated with the consortium. The described program maintains its integrity through existing student exchanges and joint research projects.
