Diverse populations of immune cells are involved in periodontal disease. Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) represent a heterogeneous group of immature myeloid cells derived from hematopoietic precursor cells and exhibit T cell immunosuppressive functions that are thought to be involved in periodontal disease. Therefore, MDSCs have been recently analyzed in the context of this disease.
