Determination of sugar content in flowers and herbs of scentless chamomile (Tripleurospermum inodorum (L.) Sch. Bip.)
Tripleurospermum inodorum (L.) Sch. Bip. is not used in Russian official medicine, however, this plant is extensively used in folk medicine. Previously, we proved the effect of scentless chamomile extracts on the growth suppression of such microorganisms as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans. It is topical to study the composition of polysaccharides and free sugars, which can have an antimicrobial effect, according to the literature data. The analysis has indicated that scentless chamomile flowers are richer in polysaccharides (2.58±0.04) than the herbs (1.68±0.05); the flowers also contain more sucrose and glucose. In terms of fructose content, herbs and flowers of scentless chamomile practically do not differ.
