Mostly three enzymes are involved; endo-β-d-glucanase (EC 3.2.1.4) which catalyzes the random hydrolysis of soluble and insoluble cellulose chains. Exo-β-d-glucanase (EC 3.2.1.19) aids in releasing cellobiose from reducing and non-reducing ends of cellulose, and hydrolysis of cellobiose to glucose is carried out by β-glucosidase (EC 3.2.1.37).1,2 Cellulases have been used in a number of industrial processes.
